Vampire Audio Drama “The Lesser Dead” Makes Exclusive Debut on Wondery+
The 8-episode-long vampire audio drama The Lesser Dead has exclusively debuted on Wondery+, courtesy of Echoverse. It’s based on the novel of the same name by author Christopher Buehlman.
The Lesser Dead stars Minnie Driver, Jack Kilmer, Danny Houston, and Saul Rubinek. It is Echoverse’s first scripted audio series. The debut episode of the supernatural show is currently available on Wondery+, an ad-free subscription service for premium audio content.
The story is set in the “wild-and-wooly” era of 1978 New York City. The tale has been narrated by Joey Peacock (Kilmer), a 19-year-old who, due to being a vampire, never really grew up. He’s part of a colony of vampires that is led by Margaret McMannis (Driver). Margaret built a home for the colony under the subways of the city. And she’s been upholding strict rules for decades to ensure the colony remains safe and secure. However, everything changes when Joey discovers three little vampire kids.
From what I got from the promo material, Joey and Margaret don’t really get along. However, they and the rest of the colony will need to come together to face a new threat entering their world.
The novel was released back in 2014. While I haven’t read it myself, I do know what the story is about. And yes, it is full of twists and turns. It will be interesting to see what was changed when adapting a written novel into a podcast.
The Lesser Dead has been Executive Produced by Buehlman, Mark Stern, Josh Maurer, Minnie Driver, and Jack Kilmer. It was directed by Dan Blank. It was produced by SALT Audio. The original music and composition were by Benjamin Sturley.
Take note; The Lesser Dead will be available on all podcasting platforms 60 days after the Wondery+ premiere. The series will run for 8 episodes (30 minutes each).
