YinWar Drop Hints About Their Upcoming Series (Or Not??)

Riding high on the popularity of their most recent series, Jack & Joker (and perhaps feasting on the tears of their fandom after that special episode), Yin Anan and War Wanarat have dropped what we hope is a new photo from their upcoming show with the caption: “WE COMING.” Well, on behalf of fans, WE WAITING.

Jack & Joker was my introduction to Yin and War (and what an introduction), but they first hit the BL scene in the 2020 anthology series En of Love, which was about a group of engineering students at university and their various relationships. Yin and War’s characters, Vee and Mark, were the focus of the second arc, En of Love: Love Mechanics, which consisted of four approximately 30-minute episodes.

Vee and Mark’s story was so popular that the company eventually produced a new, expanded version of just their arc. Love Mechanics premiered in 2022 with ten hour-long episodes and was a sensation. This is one of those series that I remember seeing all over Tumblr, even though I wasn’t even into Thai BLs at the time. And having seen it since… I get it.

(They had a series in between En of Love and Love Mechanics called The Best Story, but I haven’t seen that one yet, even though it’s only a few episodes. I’ve heard it’s sad, so I’ve been putting it off.)

Then came Jack & Joker, which I recommended back in November, when I binged the entire series in a week to watch the finale live. (Or as live as possible – I did have to work.) This was the first series that Yin and War put out from their joint production company, YWPB. The special episode, which came out in February, ended with the kind of cliffhanger that will drive you crazy, and so when they announced their new project at a recent event, fans were hoping that it would be season 2, or another special episode, or something that will give a resolution to the story.

However, during a backstage interview at one of their fansigns in April, War indicated that it would be an entirely new story. (Which, they’re actors. I don’t blame them for not wanting to keep playing the same characters. But holy jeez, please give us something. We’re dying.) Other than revealing that it was adapted from a very popular novel, he gave no other information. But then, it’s War, and no one knew whether or not to believe him.

On May 4, the official YWPB Twitter (I refuse to call it X) posted a glittery graphic that just said, “COMING SOON”. (Unconfirmed, since I’m just reading tags on Tumblr posts, but allegedly this refers to something War has done, but Yin has not. I do not know where this information came from. I have so many questions.)

And then today, across all of their social media accounts (personal and the company’s), they released the above photo. It’s a shot of Yin crouching over War as he sits at a sewing machine, and it looks like he’s getting something out of his eye. The caption is, again, just, “WE COMING.” So, naturally, the fandom exploded.

Logically, the photo could mean anything. It could be a new music video. It could be a collaboration between their clothing brands. Yin and War have been known to troll their fans, and even on Tumblr people are hesitant to accept that this means a new series until it’s fully confirmed by either of them. But for the sake of this post, which I’ve spent like two hours writing at this point, let’s assume that it is a new series.

Someone on reddit believes the novel in question is Smile Down the Runway, by Yūki Arisawa, which is based on a Japanese manga series by Kotoba Inoya. Per the redditor in question, “There is a moment in the novel, they are at the sewing workroom and one mentions ‘there is something in my eye’, which is very plausible if we look at the photo.” Of course, we don’t have official confirmation on this, so it is only speculation. The user has yet to mention a source for this, or if it’s just their own guess.

Now, the original novel (and manga) is not a BL story. So it’s possible that the new series will just be a bromance and not a BL. But it’s also possible that they will take the opportunity to queer it up, an action of which I am always in favor. (More shows should queer it up. It’s 2025. Let’s go.) And I don’t think I’m alone in hoping that they’re using “adaptation” in the loosest possible sense. If it is indeed this story.

However, there was also chatter on Twitter in the days after the reveal that a BL publisher had confirmed that YinWar had indeed bought one of their stories. After some digging, it turns out that it possibly wasn’t the publisher, but someone who reviews BL novels. And I’m unable to find the original post, only people talking about it. (That’s why quote tweets exist, people!) So take that information with a grain of salt.

Basically, take everything I say with a grain of salt. We don’t really know anything yet. Just that something is coming.

To add even more intrigue, another redditor noticed that everyone who shared the post on their Instagram stories did so using a different song.

Do the songs mean anything? What could they possibly mean? Quick, does anyone have extensive knowledge of music and lyric analysis, who can tell me if these songs are in any way related? I’ll pay you in cookies.

No matter the novel, the plot, or the meaning of the chosen songs, I am one hundred percent here and seated for a new YinWar series. I will watch them in anything. (Except The Best Story, apparently. I swear it’s on the list.)

Assuming this is a new series. Which it may not be. We’ll just have to wait and see.
