Kawaii Kon 2017 Panel: Let’s Celebrate Yuri!! On Ice

kawaii kon 2017 yuri on ice

Kawaii Kon 2017 happened over the weekend featuring many great cosplayers and fan works from the hit show Yuri on Ice.

The fandom has become a large presence in the anime community, and Kawaii Kon 2017 was no exception.  YOI fans showed up in force on the convention floor and at the panel.  On Sunday April 9th I hosted a panel, Let’s Celebrate Yuri!! on Ice.  The discussion was lively and the audience participation was fantastic.  We talked about the characters, the music, the romantic themes, language nuances, recent news, real life figure skating, possibilities for season 2 and, yes, we even talked about butts. It’s a Yuri on Ice panel. Butts were going to come up eventually!

We were thankfully able to record the panel for those that were unable to make it to the convention.

Official panel description: Yuri!!! On Ice has taken the sports anime world by storm. Come celebrate the barrier breaking show and discuss the music, choreography, accuracy in relation to competitive figure skating, and the queer themes that have put this show on the map. Strap on your skates and let’s have a chat!

It was a lot of work putting this all together.  Special thanks to Matt, my camera man and convention helper, and Emily Rose, who helped me gather facts in the days leading up to the event. Also special thanks to Ivan, whose buttons were given as a prize to cosplayers.  Also thanks TigerbladeJ, whom I met on the convention floor and also contributed buttons for my cosplayers.  Additional thanks to all the people at the Katsudon Mini Bang who encouraged me not only with my fanfic, but with this panel as well.  This panel was a group effort.  I hope to return to Kawaii Kon again next year for more.
