ICYMI: Venom 3 Trailer, Knives Out 3 Casting News & More!

Hey, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everything you’re interested in. Sometimes you have an at-home spa night with a friend so that you can watch Bridgerton season 3 for the fifteenth time, and the face masks you’re using take forever to dry. That’s what we’re here for! Here are some tidbits you may have missed over the past week or so!

We’ve got an assortment of trailers that have been released over the past few days. First off, Sony dropped the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, starting off Pride with a bang. If the title didn’t strike you as ominous, the trailer might, with a lot of death knells indicating that something major is going to happen. Personally, I was never a very big fan of Venom, but I have a lot of friends who are very excited about this.

Continuing on the trailer drops, Netflix released the trailer for the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy. Your favorite dysfunctional siblings are back after kind of sort of resetting the timeline at the end of season 3. They’re on a mission to rescue Sloane from whatever happened to her when the world rebuilt, and now none of them have the special abilities they’re so dependent on. Shenanigans ensue!

There are still more trailers to come! Just yesterday, Netflix unveiled a new trailer for the second half of Bridgerton season 3, which sent Polin (Penelope/Colin) fans – like me! – into a tizzy. I do declare, I have no idea how I’m supposed to wait until next week to watch the last four episodes.

I have a lot of thoughts, mostly about Polin, and after bingeing the entire series earlier this month, I expect I’ll have a lot to say after the second half airs. I just so happen to have that day off work, so I may be compelled to grace you all with a review. Hopefully I’ll be able to be coherent and not just a trembling puddle of goo.

We finally have some news about the third Benoit Blanc mystery from director Rian Johnson. About two weeks ago, Johnson revealed that the title of the next Knives Out film will be Wake Up Dead Man. While plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, a slew of A-list actors have already been announced as part of the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis, Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny and Daryl McCormack are all confirmed to be starring. (Worth noting that this is Renner’s first acting role since his snow plow accident.) They will join Daniel Craig, who reprises his role as world-class detective Benoit Blanc. As with the first two films, I’m sure we can expect some surprise cameos as well.

An exact air date has not been given, but it’s scheduled to release globally on Netflix sometime in 2025.

Now, while Variety considers this to be so-so, the anime film HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle made $3.5 million over the weekend, which I think is pretty impressive, especially considering it’s only showing in select theaters. True, it’s nothing compared to its overseas box office, but it’s not like anime is promoted in this country the way it is in Japan. Even fans of the series had no idea the film was coming out this weekend, and I saw a few didn’t even realize that we were getting a film in the first place. Everyone can’t be chronically online like me!

The first image for Arcane season 2 was released over the weekend, confirming that it will drop on Netflix in November.

Timed to coincide with the release of the animated film Ultraman: Rising, Tsuburaya Productions is joining with Netflix and Bandai Namco for an Ultraman Times Square takeover. On June 14, the day the film debuts on Netflix, New York City’s iconic Times Square will feature “out of this world” digital billboards, and Tamashii Nations’ Times Square store will showcase a massive storefront display. The display will feature a range of Ultraman collectibles, including Bandai Namco’s new must-have S.H. Figuarts Ultraman for Ultraman: Rising ($35), which will be available at the store.

In Thai BL news, the long-awaited 4 Minutes, starring Bible Wichapas and Jes Jespipat, finally has an air date! Production company Be On Cloud announced the premiere on their Instagram, dropping a poster as well. The series will begin on July 26, airing weekly on Viu.

For those who aren’t in the fandom, this series has been plagued with delays, mostly stemming from needing to recast one of the leads (formerly Bible’s KinnPorsche partner Build Jakapan). Fans are very excited that the series is finally going to air, after many fears that it would be shelved.

In other Thai BL (sort of) news, GMMTV’s annual company outing was over Memorial Day weekend, and our favorite pairs outdid themselves this year with the costume contest. My highlights of the weekend were OffGun channeling their best Greek mythology as Ares and Aphrodite, GreatInn cosplaying WangXian, and the introvert squad (FirstKhao, EarthMix) donning ninja robes as Naruto.
