The latest anime in the long-running Dragon Ball franchise, Dragon Ball DAIMA, will begin streaming on Crunchyroll come October 11, 2024.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama‘s original manga. The upcoming anime is based on a new story and features original characters from the iconic Toriyama. It will be available to stream on Crunchyroll with subtitles starting October 11, 2024, in the USA, Canada, Latin America including Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and Southeast Asia. The weekly subtitled episodes will be simulcast with the Japanese TV broadcast.

The series has been directed by Yoshitaka Yashima (key animator, Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge) and Aya Komaki (series director, One Piece) together with series composition and scenario by Yuko Kakihara and animation character design by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru.

First revealed to the world during New York Comic Con 2023 at the Dragon Ball Special Panel, the premise of Dragon Ball DAIMA involves Goku and his crew transforming into smaller/younger versions of themselves due to a “conspiracy”. Goku, Supreme Kai, and new characters Glorio and Panzy then head to the “Demon Realm” to find answers regarding their predicament and mysterious villains.

Here’s the trailer!

Judging from the promo material, the episode where everyone turns small and how they react to their states will be hilarious. The trailer shows Bulma being happy about said change (which makes sense for her character). Trunks and Goten are freaking toddlers! I can’t!

I also like that the big bad seems to be an alien woman. The Dragon Ball IP doesn’t have huge female villains. So, that could be fun to see.

And with Goku heading out on a mission with new characters, I’m interested in seeing how the narrative will balance the storytelling with Goku’s new crew and what the OGs will get up to during the course of the series.
