Dragon Ball Daima season 1 episode 8, titled ‘Tamagami’, featured the much-anticipated battle between Goku and the first protector of the Demon Realm’s Dragon Ball.

I continue to be surprised by the pacing of Dragon Ball Daima. While I knew that this particular chapter was going to be about Goku fighting the Third Tamagami, I wasn’t expecting the later moments in the episode to reveal what Dr Arinsu was up to. I’m so here for a villain that isn’t all about brute force.

The animators did an impressive job of making Goku’s confrontation with the humanoid being as dynamic as possible. I liked how they both used their weapons for most of the fight before deciding to trade punches and energy beams. I haven’t seen Goku use his trusty magical Power Pole in a very long time. That’s why I appreciated having him use his staff against the Tamagami’s giant hammer (that could be summoned back in hand after being thrown).

It was quite clear Goku had the upper hand against his foe, but it was still nice to see someone who didn’t get knocked down by Goku after a single punch. In a way, the Third Tamagami did quite well against the level of power Goku was currently showcasing. Our hero’s definitely having fun and I’m here for it!

The scene where Goku decided to go Super Saiyan 2 and use his iconic Kamehameha. So good!

I do have to say that the Third Tamagami admitting defeat and then testing Goku at a Shell Game was unexpected. It was time for the opponent to see how sharp Goku’s perception was. Of course, he won, but I guess that particular scene meant that the other two remaining Tamagami will also somehow test Goku (or whoever their opponent ended up being) after the initial fight had been won.

With Goku and his crew making their way to the Second Demon Realm, Vegeta and the rest were still in pursuit. I was kind of disappointed when Vegeta and Piccolo were unable to sense Goku’s energy signature, especially when he tapped into his Super Saiyan 2 form.

I still have my fingers crossed that either Piccolo or Vegeta gets to fight at least one of the Tamagami. I understand that Goku’s the main character, but still, I want Piccolo and Vegeta to receive a little spotlight before the inevitable team battle against an upcoming OP enemy.

So, yeah, the upcoming OP enemy was revealed to be a version of Majin Buu that will be under Dr Arinsu’s control. It’s revealed that she was on the battlefield when Goku and the others fought Majin Buu. Apparently, she was able to collect a sample of Majin Buu which she then brought to a witch named Marba.

I get that it’s a retcon to state that Marba created Majin Buu and Bibidi took credit for it. But, frankly, I don’t care. This wouldn’t be the first time a dude took credit for a woman’s work (even if said work was villainous in nature). And again, as I have mentioned in my reviews, I’m so here for a female enemy that isn’t about only using brute force. Dr Arinsu’s genius and scheming nature make her quite a problem for our heroes to handle.

Now, I doubt that Dr Arinsu will be able to keep the newly created Majin Buu under her control. But it’s going to be fun to see her try. She also has Glorio continue supporting Goku to collect all three Dragon Balls to help enact another one of her plans.

Gomah and Degesu did see Dr Arinsu collecting the sample as they went through the battle footage So, it will be interesting to see if they will question her real motives and whether or not she has a plan to counter their interference.
