Dragon Ball Daima 1×02 Review: “Glorio”

The second episode of Dragon Ball Daima, titled ‘Glorio’, introduced a mysterious new character to Goku and his crew as everyone tried to figure out how to reverse the effects of Gomah’s wish.

With Gomah stating his first wish during the previous episode to turn Goku and his friends into children, the fandom was looking forward to learning what Gomah’s remaining two wishes would be. ‘Glorio’ quickly answered the question. It’s revealed that Shenron had control over the number of wishes being granted. So, instead of giving Gomah three wishes as expected (apparently, three wishes are for regulars), Shenron gave Gomah only one wish and vanished.

I laughed out loud during that particular scene. Gomah and his minions did not pass the vibe check. It was such a Dragon Ball-esque decision to leave Gomah shocked in such a manner while offering an unexpected comedic moment. The long-running franchise is known to change up lore if it helps develop the story in a specific way. And nope, Neva couldn’t use the Dragon Balls again to summon Shenron so quickly.

So, admitting defeat, Gomah, Neva, and Degesu decided to return to the Demon Realm. At least, they had one wish granted. However, they did take a baby Dende with them to stop the Z-Warriors from using the Dragon Balls. Neva again mentioned the Dragon Balls in the Demon Realm. So, I’m excited to see those ancient protectors come into play soon.

Switching to Goku and the Z-Warriors, from my understanding, the wish didn’t make everyone younger per se. Apparently, they become smaller. Or at least, some of them did. Goten and Trunks clearly turned into babies. Mr. Satan and Master Roshi were definitely a lot younger. But yeah, the transformation seemed to be a weird mix of making the characters younger and smaller, but still having them retain their current minds and (I would like to assume) power levels.

With Shin being told about his brother’s involvement in the dire situation and their need to travel to the Demon Realm, I liked how the writers came up with a reason to give Goku time to get used to his new body. Only Shin’s spaceship was capable of traveling to that particular dimension. However, decades of not being used and Goku’s battle with Majin Buu had done a number on the vessel. Due to Bulma needing 10 days for repairs, the episode showed Goku training to get used to his small form. He even got his Nyoibo or Power Pole back to extend his reach. Those scenes reminded me of the OG series.

A major development was Glorio introducing himself to Goku and the rest. He didn’t waste time talking about how he was there to escort Goku back to the Demon Realm. He was meant to help Goku stop Gomah and save Dende.

I liked how Shin was suspicious of Glorio’s willingness to assist and warned Goku to keep his guard up. After all, Glorio worked for the Demon King of the Third Demon World. So you can’t be sure about his true motives.

With Glorio taking Goku, Shin, and Kibito to the Demon Realm on his spaceship, it looks like Bulma, Vegeta, and Piccolo will follow soon with Bulma being close to finishing the repairs. I was wondering if the anime was just going to be about Goku and a bunch of new characters on an adventure. So I’m glad to know that some of the other Z-Warriors will partake in the Demon Realm mission, too. I’m excited to see Vegeta growing frustrated during fights due to his small size.
