Horror has always been a staple at New York Comic Con, at least since the convention moved from early spring to October. (It’s the spooky season after all!) Each year, the event features programming from various horror franchises like Blumhouse and Child’s Play. This year, Peacock brought the cast and crew of its new series HYSTERIA! to the NYCC stage.

HYSTERIA! is set in a small town in Michigan during the 1980s. A local heavy metal band decides to use the growing “Satanic Panic” to rebrand themselves and capitalize on the sudden interest in the occult. However, a bizarre series of events including murders, kidnappings, and alleged supernatural activity causes a witch hunt that leads right back to them.

Series stars Julie Bowen (Linda Campbell), Anna Camp (Tracy Whitehead), and the iconic Bruce Campbell (Chief Ben Dandridge), alongside writers and producers David A. Goodman and Matthew Scott Kane, were on hand at NYCC to promote the series.

Bruce Campbell talked a lot about why he continues to return to roles in horror titles, as well as how – unfortunately – the themes behind this show (misinformation) are sadly still relevant to our current society. Julie Bowen is apparently a scaredy cat who hates horror movies. Anna Camp supposedly looked so unrecognizable in full hair and makeup for this series that Julie didn’t even recognize her when they passed in the hall on the first day of filming. And David A. Goodman and Matthew Scott Kane talked about setting the series in Michigan, plus which horror franchise they would want to find themselves in.

HYSTERIA! Season 1 is eight episodes and is currently streaming on Peacock.
