“Let’s Play” Anime to Premiere at Anime Expo

Yesterday, Crunchyroll dropped some news about its upcoming industry panel at Anime Expo next month, as well as some of the other panels that will be featured on the Crunchyroll Stage. But the best news I’ve heard is that the Let’s Play anime adaptation will be premiering.
Wow, where have I been? I can’t believe I’m so far removed from anime news that I had no idea this was even a thing that existed. Let’s Play was one of the first Webtoons I recommended all the way back in 2018 when I started doing Wednesday Webcomics. I own the physical volumes. I have multiple t-shirts featuring Sam’s adorable dog Bowser. And I hadn’t even heard that there was going to be an anime adaptation, let alone that it was complete enough to be premiering at Anime Expo in a month!
For those unfamiliar with the story, Let’s Play is about Sam, an indie game developer whose first game gets review bombed after a popular streamer named Marshall plays it incorrectly and trashes it on his stream. Then, in an interesting turn of fate, Marshall becomes her next door neighbor. The comic navigates life, love, and friendship as Sam and Marshall mend fences and even become friends.
Anyway, I won’t bore you too much with gushing about this story because I’ve already done so in my recommendation (even if it was six years ago). Let’s just say that I’m super excited about this, and if this doesn’t get me back into anime, I doubt anything will.
If you’re attending this year’s Anime Expo, July 3-6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, then you should absolutely check out the Let’s Play world premiere. On July 3 at the Crunchyroll Stage, join panelists Leeanne M. Krecic (creator), Daiki Tomiyasu (director), Minaka Sakamoto, Hana Sugiwara, and Heather Horn for a chat about everything that went into the making of this gaming-inspired series. And then report back to me, because I want to know everything!
From animation studio OLM (Berserk, Komi Can’t Communicate), there’s no definitive premiere date for this series yet other than it simply airing in 2025. But you’d better believe that I’ll be waiting for news, because I can’t imagine myself not reviewing this when it airs.
In addition to Let’s Play, there will be more than 10 special premieres, including Clevatess and Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse. There will also be a number of guest panels, such as The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 panel with special guest Kaito Ishikawa! (He is one of the VAs I would absolutely kill to see live on a panel. Maybe one of these years I should try to schlep out to LA for this event.)
