Orphan Black 3×10 Review: History Yet to Be Written
Season Three has been a crazy ride, and what a thrilling finale. Other shows should take note: this is how you end a heart-stopping season that is completely satisfying, but leaves a lot open for the future.
This show all goes back to family. The most heartbreaking scene, perhaps in the entire series, was when Mrs. S, her mother, and Sarah all sit and talk about their connections. It turns out that Kendall was the one that put Siobhan and Sarah together. She wanted the family to stay together, even if no one knew about it. This was extremely touching and amazingly acted. The underlying music in the scene was top-notch as well. Scenes like this are what make television memorable, and this is one that I will not soon forget. I also loved that Kendall’s tune completely changed about everything clone-related when she was able to make it all come back to family. By the end of the episode, we had a sweet reunion between Kira and Sarah, along with S and Kendall. It does appear that Kendall is going into hiding in Iceland with Kira and Cal.
Helena is one clone that always cracks me up, and has completely grown on me over the past three seasons. This episode was no exception. As I have mentioned in my reviews over the past several weeks, I love Helena with Donnie. Tonight, Donnie got to show Helena just how much she has grown on him by locating and inviting over Jesse. If there is something that I love more than Helena and Donnie, it is Helena with Jesse! She is just so happy. Although their relationship was left unresolved by the end, I enjoyed seeing them together just for a bit.
Another one of the best scenes of the episode was another amazing season finale video editing feat: the election night dinner at Bubbles. Seriously, the editing work in this scene made the dance number of last season look completely shoddy. We had our four major clones altogether at the dinner table, as well as some of our new favorite family members, including Art and Scott! Even though our clones are at the center of the series, they can’t do everything without their support, so it was wonderful to see everyone together. And yay for Team Hendrix: Alison won the election for School Trustee! Free soap for everyone.
The real star of this episode was Delphine. Not only did she maneuver her way around Dyad to figure out that “Rachel” was actually Krystal, but she also found out that Neolution is behind everything. This was a bit of shock because I really had to think back to what it all meant. I am still not sure what it means exactly, but they seem to be running the entire show. Indeed, they are behind Dyad’s involvement with Project Leda, and move the pawns with the military for Project Castor. It is still unknown who exactly is controlling everything, and it isn’t Ferdinand (much to his dismay). I guess these are questions that we will have to wait an entire hiatus for. But RIP Delphine! I will definitely miss her. She knew it was her time to go, and I am glad that she got to say goodbye to Cosima, and made time to apologize to Shay.
The ending with Rachel, in my opinion, was a bit heavy-handed, but it was fun to see the writers make our jaws drop to the floor yet again. So Rachel’s mum is alive and is the one behind her recovery, AND Charlotte is going to be raised by Rachel? I do have to suspend a bit of belief for this one, but it was a good cliffhanger to end the season on. Since we know what a great relationship Rachel had with her father, it will be interesting to see how she does with her mother. And frankly, as a mother.
Teary moments? Character deaths? Election victories? Reunions? Cliffhanger endings? Check to all of these. Another solid, fast-paced, insane season of Orphan Black. I cannot wait for Season Four.
