ICYMI: RWRB2 Confirmed, Love Sea Trailer & More!

Hey, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with everything you’re interested in. Sometimes you actually have to work at your day job and you don’t have as much time as you thought to read all the news. That’s what we’re here for! Here are some tidbits you may have missed over the past week or so!

Red, White, and Royal Blue 2 is confirmed! The news was announced last night at a special screening of the first film, which was followed by a Q&A with cast and crew. Stars Nicholas Galitzine (Henry) and Taylor Zakhar Perez (Alex) are set to reprise their roles, and director and screenwriter Matthew Lopez is also returning. Casey McQuinston, author of the book on which the film is based, will be helping Lopez pen the script.

A teaser image was released, featuring the iconic cake that starts off all the shenanigans in the first movie, but other than that, we don’t know much. Despite the changes from the book, the film follows the plot fairly well, so a sequel would be a completely new story.

I am really excited about this. I loved the first film and watched it probably half a dozen times just in its first week. Fans were hoping that there would be a sequel, and I’m happy that we didn’t have to wait too long for it.

Love Sea the Series dropped its trailer and release date. You may remember that Love Sea is one of the 2024 Thai BLs that I’ve been eagerly anticipating, and when I put out that list, we didn’t have any information on it. I wasn’t even sure how far into filming they were at the time. But earlier today, the official trailer was released, revealing that the show premieres on iQIYI on June 9.

Love Sea tells the story of reclusive author Tongrak (Peat Wasuthorn), who goes to one of Thailand’s islands in order to find inspiration for his latest novel and meets Mahasamut (Fort Thitipong). Tongrak tries to resist Mahasamut but fails completely.

Here’s the trailer. Be careful, it’s spicy! Don’t watch it at work!

Tickets are now on sale for HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle in North America. The first of the final two films of the Haikyu!! franchise, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle debuts in theaters in the United States and Canada on May 31. It will be available both in Japanese with English subtitles and dubbed in English.

HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle covers the long-awaited first official match between Karasuno and eternal rivals Nekoma at the National Volleyball Tournament. While I’m still disappointed that we aren’t getting another season of the anime, I’m nonetheless excited to see my volleyball idiots again.

You can purchase tickets at https://www.haikyumovie.com/tickets.

Fans of Orphan Black may be excited that Orphan Black: Echoes (which I can’t tell if it’s a sequel or a prequel or what) released its trailer. Starring Krysten Ritter, who also serves as executive producer, Orphan Black: Echoes premieres on AMC and BBC America on June 23.

Set in the near future, Orphan Black: Echoes takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

It’s almost Pride month, and Marvel Comics has released its Pride variant covers for various Marvel and Star Wars titles. America Chavez, Hulkling, Northstar, and Loki are just a few of the Marvel characters who will be spotlighted on the covers (full list and photos here); while Doctor Aphra, Ruu, Cair San Tekka & Xylan Graf, and Sinjir Rath Velus are the Star Wars characters who will be featured (photos here).

To celebrate the return of My Hero Academia, which returned for season 7 last Saturday, iiZO has a rare and exclusive lineup of My Hero Academia products that fans can shop. These include exclusive collaborations and hard-to-find products, like the complete box set (volumes 1-20) and figures from Bandai. Check out the full collection here.

This isn’t technically our wheelhouse, and I’m not sure how many of our readers are fans of figure skating, but Japanese figure skater Shoma Uno announced his retirement on Instagram. Shoma is a three-time Olympic medalist (silver in 2018, and bronze – individual and team – in 2022), a two-time World Champion, and six-time and reigning Japanese Champion. We don’t know yet if he’ll follow his former teammate Yuzuru Hanyu into doing ice shows; he will be revealing more about his decision at a press conference this coming Tuesday.

The ongoing and ever-increasing list of reboots that nobody asked for, needs, or wants got even longer earlier this week when Peacock announced a spinoff for The Office. According to Variety, it’s only a spinoff in the sense that it’s the same documentary crew, who are looking for a new subject. (Personally I’d think following a small paper company in Scranton, PA, would have many of them rethinking their lives, but that’s just me.) But still, one wonders how you could possibly escape from the huge shadow left by The Office.

Honestly, I would have left “the same documentary crew” premise entirely behind and just done another show with a similar concept. People probably would be more willing to watch it if people weren’t tying it to The Office.

And that’s what you missed on Glee!
