“Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years” to Debut at San Diego Comic-Con
A new exhibition celebrating Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary called “Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years” will debut at the world-famous San Diego Comic-Con this summer. The exhibit will feature 50 artists from 10 countries around the world.
One piece of art displayed at “Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years” will be a work from the late Leonard Nimoy who passed away early last year. Besides playing Spock in the original series and recent reboots, he was also a noted photographer. One of his works, “Hand in Vulcan Gesture,” will be on display starting this summer along with other visual works celebrating the 50th anniversary of the landmark science fiction series. The exhibit will also feature work from Joshua Budich, Rocco Malatesta, Tom Whalen, and sculptor Calvin Ma.
While the exhibit’s first stop will be the Wolf Fine Arts in the Gaslight Quarter during SDCC weekend, it won’t be its only stop. The artwork will head to “Star Trek Las Vegas” in early August, the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto from August to early September, then cross the pond to the UK for the “Destination Star Trek Europe” convention in October. It will continue its journey around the world until mid-August 2017. So don’t worry, this isn’t going to be something only us SDCC attendees get to enjoy. Star Trek fans around the world will have a chance to see the works on display.
Still can’t make it to the exhibit in person? Not a problem. The artwork will also be available as a coffee table book and calendar, which are available for pre-order now. According to StarTrek.com “more than 20 partners are on board and they will offer products set to roll out across the US, Europe, Canada, Australia and other territories around the world.” So basically don’t be worried about seeing this artwork in person. There will be plenty of stuff available soon, so keep an eye out on their official website for more information.
