Resident Evil 7 Announced During E3 for January 2017 Release

Capcom announced the upcoming Resident Evil 7 during Sony’s E3 conference. While fans have been waiting for years to play the next installment in the series, it might not be what they were expecting!

Resident Evil 7 seems to have taken a completely different route, gameplay experience wise, judging by the content released during E3. The seventh installment will be in first-person view and fully compatible with the PlayStation VR. However, players won’t be required to own such a headset in order to play it.

“While Resident Evil 7 draws from the series’ roots of atmospheric survival horror, it also delivers a whole new level of terror. In the classic Resident Evil games of yesteryear, players braced for fear in the first-person via the creepy door-opening scenes, and Resident Evil 7 ramps up that tension with an immersive first-person view and a photorealistic graphical style.”

The story of the game picks up after the events of Resident Evil 6, which came out in 2012. There is no information regarding whether or not series veterans such as Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, or Jill Valentine, etc., will be part of the game.

Resident Evil 7 will be released on January 24^th, 2017, for the PS 4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo is available for PlayStation Plus members. The demo will be released for other platforms as time progresses.

On pre-ordering the Standard or Deluxe versions of the game, players will receive the Survival Pack. Said pack will include an early unlock to the hardest difficulty mode along with a special item set during the release of the game. When pre-ordering through the PlayStation Store, players will also get an exclusive Resident Evil 7 PS4 dynamic theme.

Only time will tell if fans of the Resident Evil franchise welcome the series’ drastic shift to first-person view during gameplay.
