Playmates Toys “Ninja Ghostbusters” Figures Review – TMNT/Ghostbusters Mashup
Playmates Toys Ninja Ghostbusters 6-inch figures are a fun mashup of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters. I greatly liked the detail, sculpt, articulation, and accessories!
Playmates Toys provided me with the Ninja Ghostbusters figures for free to review. The opinions are my own.
The Ninja Ghostbusters set is a fun take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters franchises. The figures include Leonardo as Stantz, Michelangelo as Venkman, Donatello as Spengler, and Raphael as Zeddmore. Each figure comes with a Library Ghost, Sunway Ghost, Zuul Dog (Terror Dog), and Slimer, respectively.
Take note that these figures are Target Exclusive and will cost $19.99 each. Considering the detail and accessories, each figure is worth the price tag.
If you’ve read or kind of know about the IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters crossover comic book series, you’ll understand why such a figure set makes complete sense. The successful comic book series will be getting a sequel in November of this year.
Coming to the Ninja Ghostbusters set, you’ll notice that each figure is sculpted in the familiar tan Ghostbusters jumpsuits. The turtles have been detailed to resemble the 1984 Ghostbusters team while still looking like the iconic turtles.
The likeness with the Ghostbusters team is mostly in the head sculpts. The Leonardo/Stantz figure has Ecto goggles, Michelangelo has Venkman’s hairstyle along with a raised eyebrow, Raphael has Zeddmore’s hair and mustache, and Donatello has Spengler’s hair and glasses. Their names on the badges are Leo, Don, Mike, and Raph.
Each figure boasts a lot of detail. A walkie-talkie has been sculpted on the belts. The jumpsuits also have pockets (complete with zipper-detail) on each figure’s chest and legs. I liked the realistic folds on each suit. Even though the suit is over the shells, you can still make out the details in the back.
There’s also a Ghostbusters logo on each figure’s right arm. The turtles are also wearing a sculpted undershirt that’s the same color as the jumpsuit. Each Ninja Ghostbusters figure is wearing black boots and gloves. Even the boots feature sculpted shoelaces and stitches for detail. The turtles stay true to their respective color scheme through the colored bandages on each arm and head.
Each figure in this set comes with a PKE Meter, a trap door, an activated proton pack, spectral blaster, and a little unique ghost. The figures can wear the proton packs. The Neutrino Wand can be placed in the figure’s hands (you’ll need to do make adjustments with the joints) or it can fit on the side of the proton pack. The particle stream can’t be removed. However, you can rotate it by turning a wheel that’s present on the bottom.
The little ghost figures also share some likeness with their live-action film counterparts. The little ghosts are well-detailed and can easily stand on their own. I really liked the transparent plastic to help make the figures look like see-through yet tangible spirits.
The Ninja Ghostbusters figures have articulated heads, shoulders, elbows, legs, and knees. The joints are easy to move. Furthermore, it’s easy to make each figure stand.
I really like the new Ninja Ghostbusters figures. Playmates Toys did a great job of mixing the likeness of two characters from different franchises and giving each figure a set of accessories and a unique ghost. I’m sure fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters are going to have a blast with these!
