Interview with Actor and Writer Kyle Samples
I was presented with the opportunity to interview the young and talented Kyle Samples. I am sure most of you have seen him on your TV screens. He has made appearances in American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy, and even Glee. He recently took on the project ‘The Life of Brad’ which he wrote, produced and also starred in.
Q. What made you decide to pursue a career in acting?
I got the acting bug at a very early age. I would create shows using sock puppets and went through many socks much to my parent’s chagrin. I was also influenced by my second grade teacher, Mrs. Laura Hamlet, who believed in me enough to put on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. It was then that I realized that I loved being on stage and performing for people. I took every opportunity to take drama and/or play production for the rest of my school career. When I graduated from high school, it was the only career I ever considered.
Q. How was your experience working on famous shows like American Horror Story, Glee and Sons of Anarchy?
It was a really great experience. These shows gave me an opportunity to learn from some the best actors, directors, and production staff in the business. It really showed me what striving to be the best in your craft can bring you.
Q. When it comes to selecting projects, TV or film, what kind of things are you looking for?
I am always looking for interesting and engaging ways to express myself. I like to challenge people’s ideas, beliefs, and expectations. I’m not afraid to push the envelope and will do pretty much anything to get a laugh or make my point in a project.
Q. I was lucky enough to see your new work ‘The Life of Brad’. What inspired you to write, produce and star in such a project?
I came up with the idea of a character, Brad, who is at the very peak of insanity while having God-like powers – the opposite of most people’s concept of God. I then began to envision a character, Bradley, that would have deal with such a psychotic entity. It allowed me to bring in fantastic and outlandish elements in the story such as teleportation, time travel and, of course, breaking the fourth wall.
Q. What kind of a reaction are you expecting? I mean, it’s quite crazy and different, having sci-fi, humor and even horror elements.
Well, I expect that people will have all kinds of reactions. I wanted to take people on a journey of the unexpected. From one scene to the next, you just cant be sure about what is going to happen. My main goal is to have people forget about their current reality, make them laugh and have a good time.
Q. As an artist what do you prefer more? Acting or writing?
That’s a tough question because both types of work bring you such different experiences. Writing allows you to create whole worlds and realities that can be brought to life on the stage or screen. It is such an amazing process of creation. Acting allows you to perform and create for an audience in real time and experience being another person which I always enjoy very much. I really don’t think I could choose and it’s great to have both doors open.
Q. When will ‘The Life of Brad’ webseries be released?
It should be out by Februrary/Spring of 2014.
Q. Where can we expect to see you next in 2014? Any other projects in the pipeline?
Well, doing “Life of Brad” just about wiped me out and I am taking a little time to regroup in preparation for my next project. In the meantime, don’t be surprised if I show up on a TV show or film. I’m always up for that.

I wish him all the best regarding his creative endeavors and hope he reaches even newer heights as an artist.
