A Note From the Admin

It’s been a wild year for the blogging community. Too wild, actually.

Twitter has become a toxic place to interact with our followers and people are leaving it in droves (thanks, Musk).  Additionally, AI has taken over Google search results which means a lot of the content we were known for has been pushed down and, frequently, moved entirely off the first page.  Add on the usual longstanding website scrapers, who steal our content for their own website wholesale without permission, and we’ve seen a dramatic decrease in revenue.  We made less than half of what we made in 2022 in 2023.  And we don’t make a lot of money to begin with, so this has hit us pretty hard.

None of us have been able to do this full-time, though for many of us that is the dream. We don’t make what writers truly should for the work we put in, but we do it because we’re passionate about geek culture.  Our advertising revenue is split among all the contributors based on their work volume, which means everyone who contributes to this website has been impacted by the Twitter and AI issues.  As we were already struggling before, we’re absolutely floundering for revenue now.

Due to these dramatic changes, we have updated our Patreon with new tiers and kindly ask that you help support us through that avenue if you are able.

New Patreon Perks

The Zoo $3 – Everyone who pledges $3 a month will have access to our monthly wrap-up.  This will be posted to Patreon, and we will work on getting it delivered directly to your inbox as well.

The Aviary $5 – Our most popular perk – a shout-out on the website and an optional link at the foot of our page – is still here for the same price.  Only now you also get the monthly wrap-up as well.

Bird Feeders $8 – Get all of the above, plus twice annual stickers.  These stickers will be themed around fandom, LGBTQ+ themes, and general Geekiary content.  If our budget allows, we will send out more than two a year.  Think Pride and Christmas-themed special editions!  But we have to have enough pledges to make that happen.

The Top Perch $15 – Get all of the above, plus at least once annual merchandise shipped to you.  This merchandise will vary, consisting of things like lanyards, pens, buttons, and maybe even shirts!  The themes of the merchandise will be similar to what we’re offering for the stickers, and we will ship more than one per year if we get enough pledges.  

Announcements for sticker and merchandise designs will be posted on social media.  Anyone who pledges in the first six months (for stickers) or year (for other merch) will get what’s announced in the first post.
