Getting Into The Nostalgia for the 25th Yu-Gi-Oh! Anniversary

It’s time to get nostalgic for the 25th Yu-Gi-Oh! Anniversary! Konami announced that Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game: Duel Monsters” will kick off the 25th Anniversary Project during February 2023. Do you want to get into nostalgia while having fun?

Can you believe the 25th Yu-Gi-Oh! anniversary is already coming up?

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a card game with a fan-favorite anime based on it. Players collect, trade and battle it out with each other using powers connected to cards, both in the real-life game and on the screen. It’s one of the few anime series based on a card game that remains popular up to this day.

Yu-gi-oh! is popular even to this day because of the storyline, theme, characters, and the card game. Many card game series tried to be like Yu-Gi-Oh! afterwards but have failed to do so.

So… are you ready to get hype for the Yu-Gi-Oh! anniversary? Here’s how to get started.

Play The Trading Card Game

Getting ready for the Yu-Gi-Oh! anniversaryHave you have been around since the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh? Then you might have had cards like these in either your binder or your deck before. Maybe you still have them around somewhere.

If you want to look for some Yu-Gi-Oh! packs, booster boxes, or even single cards, you can try your local comic shop. Usually if you want to find discounts, it would happen during Black Friday like in Walmart or any retail stores. Otherwise, the best place to look for Yu-gi-oh! cards is TCGPlayer.

Are you a duelist or a collector? If you’re both, like I am, check out the TCG: Legendary Collection special Yu-Gi-Oh! Anniversary pack coming out on April 4th, 2023. It will give you nostalgic vibes once released.

Check out local tournaments in your area or card shops if you want to try out and have fun with the card game. It’s a great way to socialize and have fun with new friends (or old!). Check out the Official Konoami Tournament Store Website- it’ll list the tournaments near your area.

Watching The Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime and Movies

To get ready for the Yu-Gi-Oh! anniversary, you can watch all the seasons and have a watch party to discuss it. It’s going to take some time. Season 2 for instance has a total of 48 episodes.

One problem: do you want to watch Season 0 of Yu-Gi-Oh? Look on YouTube or other online sharing sites because it’s only available in Japan.

Besides the anime series, did you know that there are 3 movies that are available during this nostalgic era? Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie, Yu-gi-oh! Bonds Beyond Time and Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions as all three are interesting. I especially like The Dark Side of Dimensions which was full of nostalgia as it was released in 2016.

Yu-gi-Oh! The Movie was released back in 2004 as it had Yugi and his friends from the original series and the movie takes place during the early seasons, while Yu-gi-oh! Bonds Beyond Time only had the first 3 protagonist: Yugi, Jaden and Yusei from different Yu-gi-oh! series. Thus Yu-gi-oh! Dark Side of Dimensions is nostalgic as it’s been almost 10+ years that fans seen Yugi and his friends playing the card game, as the movie takes place right around after the series ended.

The Geekiary’s Elvie Mae Parian reviewed the movie back in 2017, stating, “The film continues from where the original series of Yugi and friends ended, answering a few things fans may have long meditated on since.”

There’s also The Abridged Series that you can watch. It’s short clips of humorous fun that isn’t canon to the series at all, but it’s a fan favorite.

Read the Manga

Did you know there’s a Yu-Gi-Oh! manga? The series has a lot of manga, and you should also read the spin off: Yu-Gi-Oh! R. Plan a read-through (or a re-read) and have a book discussion with friends… or just have fun reading.

Make your own fun for the Yu-Gi-Oh! anniversary

What about drawing fanart or writing fanfics? You should check out DeviantArt or Fanfiction.net.

You don’t have to be a good drawer or a writer. Just post what you have done so that others can enjoy it. There’ll be people that will give you negative reviews to the stories or drawings… but other reviews will be supportive, so don’t listen to the negatives!

If you have an idea for a drawing or story, go on ahead and do it. You can even be anonymous like some authors on ao3. You don’t have to use your real name- just make up a penname of your own. Be creative, do your own thing, and don’t listen to the haters.

There’s a lot of things to do before, during and after the Yu-Gi-Oh! anniversary, and it doesn’t have to be done all in one go. Take your time. You’ll build a hobby and make friends that are into your favorite fandoms (and maybe find people to play with!).
