LGBTQ Thriller “Ganymede” Gets August VOD Debut!
VMI Releasing has announced that they will be bringing the live-action queer thriller Ganymede to VOD for the North American audience come August 6, 2024.
Ganymede has been described as a “campy Southern Gothic thriller” featuring a narrative that explores a young wrestler from a small town falling for an openly gay classmate. Of course, the wrestler’s family isn’t into it, especially the legacy-obsessed father. Also, the young athlete finds himself being stalked by a grotesque creature capable of invading his thoughts.
Ganymede is by life and creative partners Colby Holt and Sam Probst. The film had its world premiere at the 41st Reeling International Film Festival. The movie received the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature Film.
At the Chattanooga Film Festival, it went on to win the Pride Award.
For those interested, Ganymede will make its debut on Cable and Digital VOD on August 6, 2024, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and Prime Video.
The film stars Jordan Doww (Reach), Pablo Castelblanco (Alaska Daily, Happy’s Place), David Koechner (Anchorman, Cheap Thrills), Robyn Lively (Teen Witch), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Marissa Reyes (Raven’s Home).
It has been co-directed by Holt and Probst from a script by Holt.
Here’s the trailer!
Frankly, I’m not sure how to feel about Ganymede after watching the trailer. I get that conversion therapy is still a thing across the world and that many queer individuals are forced to remain in the closet. However, the promo makes the film come across as a bit dated. Maybe it’s actually set a couple of years ago instead of 2024? Hmmm.
It did win awards. So, I guess it has to be good, right? I guess I’ll find out soon enough come August 6, 2024.
I am interested in seeing how the script handles forced religious guilt relating to being queer.
Will you be watching Ganymede?
Let us know.
