Season 3 “Sleepy Hollow” Finale Shocking in Worst Way
**The following contains major spoiler from “Ragnarok!” Please steer clear if you have not yet seen season 3, episode 18 of Sleepy Hollow**
I quit Sleepy Hollow during season 2. I was frustrated with the (Katrina) Crane Family Drama and I thought the show underutilized its best talent. I logged into Tumblr this morning to find out that Abbie Mills is [expletive] dead?
The hero of the story? The plucky pint-sized Slytherin Abigail Mills? The actual Witness and main protagonist of your show? Like, I like Ichabod Crane! I like Tom Mison, he’s handsome and tall and whatever, but I didn’t quit the show because Ichabod “I can fix every situation with an hilarious anecdote about a former slaveowner” Crane was getting too little screen time and emotional depth of character. I did so because Abbie Mills deserved better, and now Abbie Mills is dead.
I understand why Nicole Beharie would have negotiated this move before the current season 3 premiered, but if the writers had respected her character more, I can’t believe she would have wanted to leave. Beharie was gracious in her statements about her character’s death. I will continue to be disgruntled the writers and producers of Sleepy Hollow threw away a chance to have a full season of canon romance between Mills and Crane when they knew they were losing the immense talent of Nicole Beharie.
I know sometimes it’s nice for two heterosexually-paired characters to Just Stay Friends, but Beharie and Mison’s chemistry was part of what drew me and many others to Sleepy Hollow in the first place. It is also frankly uncommon for black women to be paired with white men on network television. Sleepy Hollow started out as this promising, woman of color-led sci fi/fantasy cop drama series, but it has let down its fans. If it is renewed for a fourth season, I hope they take steps to rectify this baffling decision.
