Spin Master’s DC Comics Retro Collection Celebrates “Batman Forever”
The latest DC Comics Retro Collection from Spin Master offers a Target-exclusive line of figures celebrating 30 years of the live-action Batman Forever movie starring Val Kilmer.
In exciting news for Batman collectors and fans of Batman Forever (1995), Spin Master has a bunch of retro-styled action figures to add to your ever-growing collection. The current DC Comics Retro Collection features authentic movie styling, classic packaging, and designs.
The action figures included in the line are Batman, Robin, Two-Face, and The Riddler. There is also a good-sized Batmobile complete with a figure of the Caped Crusader.
Let’s begin by talking about the Batman Forever Batmobile & Batman Collector’s Set. This particular offering can be yours for MSRP $19.99 (not a bad price point) and is recommended for kids 4 and older.
You will get to own a 20-inch Batmobile featuring a movie-accurate vehicle design and unique translucent chassis. Judging from the promo images, I do like the details. The blue really pops with the overall black of the vehicle. And yes, the car can be opened to place a figure inside.
The figure, in question, is approximately 5 inches tall and is styled after Kilmer’s portrayal of the Dark Knight. Of course, you can place any toy of a similar size behind the wheel of the Batmobile. That’s one of the things I enjoy about the Spin Master offerings as the size and scale allow for a lot of cross-playability with other action figures not necessarily related to the Batman IP.
As for the DC Comic Collection Retro Action Figures, each toy can be yours for MSRP $8.99. They are also recommended for ages 4 and up.
Each 5-inch tall figure has been styled after the character’s portrayal in the live-action film. We have Kilmer as the Caped Crusader, Chris O’Donnell as Robin, Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face, and Jim Carrey as The Riddler. The classic packaging is what really amps up the overall cool factor of this line for me. They are going to look great on any collector shelf. If you get the Batmobile set, you don’t have to buy the individual Batman figure unless you are adamant about completing the entire collection.
Talking about articulation, I’m glad the designers 100% stuck to the retro vibe. So, being retro, don’t expect a lot of articulation from these figures. You can move the figures at the neck, shoulders, and hips. The details are nice considering the small size.
A bit of history for those who might not know, Batman Forever was released back in June 1995 and had a reported production budget of $100 million. The film went on to gross more than $330 million at the global box office, becoming the 6th highest-grossing film that year. Though she didn’t get a figure in the current line, the cast also had Nicole Kidman as Dr. Chase Meridian.
The plot is basically about The Riddler annoying Batman. It also serves as an origin story for Richard “Dick” Grayson becoming Robin. It’s an okay movie, in my opinion.
