New Cells at Work, Fairy Tail Manga Among Fall Kodansha Titles
Kodansha Comics, Vertical Comics, and Vertical, Inc., have announced their fall lineup, which include new series, spinoffs of titles like Cells at Work and Fairy Tale, and re-releases of titles like Magic Knight Rayearth.
Vertical Comics has announced that the highly-anticipated manga adaptation of NISIOISIN’s blockbuster Bakemonogatari series, by acclaimed creator Oh! Great (Air Gear), will debut in October.
Another new novel from the Monogatari franchise creator is the third book in the Zaregoto series, Hanging High School, which will release in September. Coming in December is the Monogatari “season 2” box set. The limited edition box set features brand new art from VOFAN as well as some extras.
Also coming in December is Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose Resurrection at Nineteen, the prequel light novel to the popular manga series.
New box sets from Vertical Comics include the re-release of CLAMP’s Magic Knight Rayearth in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The series will be released in two three-volume hardcover box sets that will also include a full-color art book featuring rare pieces by the creators and a yet-to-be-revealed bonus item. The first box set is due in Fall 2019.
The best-selling fantasy epic Fairy Tail is getting its first 11-volume box set this fall, with two per year to follow. Kodansha Comics has also announced the sequel to Fairy Tail, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. With story and layouts by creator Hiro Mashima, 100 Years Quest will continue the adventures of Natsu, Lucy, Erza, and the rest of the magical guild.
There were also two cover reveals, both by VOFAN. The first is for Makoto Shinkai’s novel Voices of a Distant Star (coming this July), and the second is for VOFAN’s own full-color art book, Colorful Dreams. Originally published only in Taiwan, Colorful Dreams will release this October.
Kodansha Comics other releases include Cells at Work! CODE BLACK, If I Could Reach You, Drifting Dragons, and the manga adaptation of Granblue Fantasy.
CODE BLACK, the spinoff to Cells at Work, will – unlike the original – follow a Red Blood Cell and a White Blood Cell in a body that’s falling apart with smoking, drinking, gout, fatty liver, and other more…intimate problems. This book is only for ages 18 and up!
If I Could Reach You is a serious yuri title about a girl coming to terms with her sexuality through her crush on her brother’s wife, with volume 1 coming this fall.
Drifting Dragons, the story of a “whaling ship” that floats through the air and hunts dragons, was a digital-first title that will be coming to print for the first time, with volume 1 coming this holiday season.
Granblue Fantasy is the manga adaptation of the global hit online game that featured music and design work by key creative figures in the Final Fantasy series. By cocho and Makoto Fuugetsu, the manga begins this fall.
