The first teaser trailer for the upcoming queer live-action movie titled 100 Nights of Hero has been released. It stars Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Maika Monroe, Amir El-Masry, Felicity Jones, Richard E. Grant, and yes, the singer Charli XCX.

The premise of 100 Nights of Hero involves two women hatching a plan to avoid a disturbing bet involving a handsome man. It’s based on the graphic novel titled The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg. Monroe plays Cherry, the wife of a neglectful husband who decides to test his wife’s loyalty before going away somewhere for a 101 days. The test is basically the arrival of a charming house guest named Manfred (Galitzine).

According to the teaser trailer, if Cherry doesn’t show a hint of pregnancy after 101 nights, she won’t be allowed to live. From the premise, I’m assuming that Cherry’s husband likely made a bet with his friend Manfred to seduce and impregnate Cherry to save her life or something while he’s away. There’s likely a “secret” medical reason why the husband can’t ensure he’s the one fathering any potential child, even if he’s around. Or, if you are to think of this differently, he’s unsure about Cherry’s loyalty and doesn’t want to impregnate her until she’s been “rightfully” tested or whatever.

Anyway, while the men make decisions about Cherry’s body, what they are unaware of is the fact that Cherry’s in love with her maid Hero (Corrin). In the graphic novel, Hero’s plan is to keep Manfred distracted for a 101 nights by telling him stories. However, isn’t Cherry supposed to get pregnant to save her life? Hmmm.

For those who think the premise about telling stories to someone for such a long time sounds familiar, then you aren’t alone. The graphic novel is based on the Middle Eastern folktales One Thousand and One Nights or The Arabian Nights, but with a more women-centric and queer twist.

Here’s the very interesting teaser trailer!

The scene at the end, where both Hero and Manfred offer Cherry a glass of water, had me laughing out loud. The drama! The tension!

‘100 Nights of Hero’ – Official Teaser Trailer

While I haven’t read the graphic novel, I’m going to share some information I was able to find online to kind of determine how the movie adaptation will pan out and learn a bit more about the characters.

According to Goodreads, the story is set in the Empire of Migdal Bavel. Cherry’s husband, Jerome, made a wager with Manfred. If he’s able to seduce Cherry in one hundred nights, then Manfred can have Jerome’s castle as well as Cherry. So, yeah, Manfred’s all in on wanting to seduce Cherry.

As for Hero, she’s a member of the League of Secret Story Tellers, explaining how her plan involves distracting Manfred with numerous stories to stop him from successfully seducing Cherry. The stories in the graphic novel feature themes covering love, loyalty, betrayal, and madness.

100 Nights of Hero has been written and directed by Julia Jackman.

A graphic novel is an awesome medium for storytelling, especially a bunch of stories that can showcase a variety of art styles to set the tone. That’s why I’m curious about how Jackman will depict the storytelling aspect of such a premise.

100 Nights of Hero will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival come September 6, 2025. A theatrical release is planned for December 5, 2025.
