Chance the Darkness With Paranormal Writer L.A. Wild

02

Today we have author L.A. Wild with us. She’s the writer of the paranormal book “Chance the Darkness” which is Book One in “The Dark Series”. Check out our exclusive interview where we get to know more about the author, her engaging book, and upcoming projects!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I grew up in a quiet town forty minutes North West of London. I’ve lived in many places including Greece where the locals introduced me to the wonderful world of Greek Mythology, and Glasgow where I fell in love with the Scottish and their amazing accent. I studied and became an accountant and finally in 2006, I settled in Australia where the beaches are beautiful, and it’s hot, hot, hot!

When did you discover you loved to write?

I’ve always enjoyed writing but I took the long way round to become a writer. There was just so much in the world I had to see and do first.

Are there other authors who have inspired you?

There are so many. From Rosemary Rogers in the bodice ripping era to Lee Child’s, Jack Reacher, and just recently I’ve come across an Indie Author, Cynthia Witherspoon, whose books are crazy brilliant.

Tell us a bit about your ‘Dark Series’? What kind of readers will it appeal to?

My favourite subject! I can drone on for hours about the Dark Series. I love it. I love profiling all the characters; Summer, Black, Dillon, Marinus and many more. I love learning about them, their quirks and behaviors. Even the bad guys are awesome.

The book is urban fantasy with romantic elements. It’s not a standalone book but there are raunchy scenes in places so it’s definitely for the adults.

So, quick summary which in reality I’ve pinched from the synopsis and tweaked:

Summer’s twin dies, and her whole life begins to unravel in ways she never could have imagined. A crazy lady ranting in her head, blood-drinking ghouls, a psychotic cult demanding she channel some powerful objects.

Then she meets Black. Tall, handsome, godlike. He harbors sinister secrets and lives by his own set of rules—rules no one can begin to comprehend.

While searching for her sister’s killer in a seedy part of Glasgow, she discovers that nothing about her life is what it seems. Family secrets, betrayal. Her emotions run hot, she makes some seriously bad choices. But with the heart of Scotland becoming a paranormal battlefield, Summer has to fight just to stay alive.

How would you describe the lead female character, Summer Keese?

Book one is the start of Summer’s journey from the bubble-gum world she lives in to the darker side of what lurks in Glasgow. Summer wasn’t born tough or with a natural ability to kick ass, these are skills she has to learn as she is forced to fight for her life. She was, however, born with the ability to read minds. Which comes in handy.

Her reactions aren’t always what the reader wants to read, which can be frustrating, but I purposely created her that way. She’s in a world where right and wrong doesn’t exist. Who knows how people would react to those sorts of situations.

Would like to share your thought about Self and traditional publishing?

I certainly don’t claim to know the world of publishing inside out, but I do have a few opinions on the matter, mostly 01from my own trial and error, which I’m happy to share.

Self-publishing is hard work. Trying to market your own book chews into time which could be better spent writing more books. It’s a catch-22. But the indie author support network is fantastic; they are an amazing bunch of people. I would certainly recommend hooking up with these guys for support.

Traditional publishing has an established list of contacts with a proven marketing strategy and a reach to audiences which is invaluable. But this comes at a price.

Ultimately, the decision how to publish is a personal choice by the author. The great thing about this day and age is we authors have a choice.

Are there any upcoming works we should know about?

Yes, yes, and yes. Book two is due back from the editors any day now, and I’ve just finished book three which has untangled many knots and answered a lot of questions. Hopefully, the readers will find these as exciting to read as they were to write.
