“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” Manga Issue 44 Review: Amado

The plot moved quite a bit in this month’s manga issue of Boruto. ‘Amado’ let us know what the titular character and Kashin Koji might be planning.

I know that some fans were complaining about scriptwriter Ukyo Kodachi and mangaka Mikio Ikemoto taking their sweet time when it came to progressing the plot in Boruto. I think those fans will enjoy reading ‘Amado’ because it gave us a lot of information in a single manga issue.

The chapter’s main story was about Amado making his way to the Hidden Leaf Village and wanting to talk with Shikamaru. I guess whatever he wished to achieve was very important because Amado didn’t play around. He easily took down Shikadai, Chocho, and Inojin, and then proceeded to take Shikadai hostage to get an audience with Shikamaru.

From what I could understand, if Amado and Kashin Koji really wanted to work with the good guys, siding with the Hidden Leaf Village was a good call. We don’t really know Jigen’s full plan. But if it has to do with properly resurrecting Isshiki (and quite possibly bringing back Kaguya), Amado and Kashin Koji doing their best to stop such a strategy is a sensible move to make. However, I’m not sure if I can fully trust them, yet. 

Also, if Isshiki needs to be resurrected, does that mean someone was able to defeat him? Is Isshiki, like Kaguya, sealed somewhere, too? These are the questions I would like answered.

The rest of the chapter’s story focused on Salad sharing her worries about Boruto with Sasuke and Sakura. I also enjoyed seeing Mitsuki interact with Sasuke. Due to Mitsuki basically being in love with Boruto, it made sense for him to be worried about Boruto’s well-being (after what happened). I liked how Sasuke and Mitsuki (being intelligent characters) were able to decipher a lot of what was going on with Boruto and how his body was being used as a vessel.

Some other thoughts and questions:

• I’m still waiting for an explanation about how the Karma Seal might be related to the Byakugo Seal that Sakura and Tsunade have.
• Yes, I noticed that the mangaka forgot to draw the bomb around Shikadai’s neck in one of the panels. It happens.
• The Kara Organization seems to know a lot about the ninjas from the Hidden Leaf Village. It’s creepy.
• With Boruto and the rest of Team 7 getting to show their abilities against Boro, I hope the other teams get their time to shine, too.
• I wasn’t expecting to see Sumire in ‘Amado’, but I’m not complaining because I’m always glad whenever she appears. Her interaction with Kawaki stood out to me. I think she can understand his pain because of how her body was used as a weapon of mass destruction by her father.
• I still think that Salad and Kawaki will be endgame. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Kawaki goes with Sumire instead.
• I was kind of expecting ‘Amado’ to give us a taste of the battle between Kashin Koji and Jigen. Maybe we will see some of it in the next chapter? I hope so. Also, I would like to learn about Kashin Koji’s true identity already.
• How much power does Amado have over the Kara members? Can be really shut down the entire group like he powered off Delta?

‘Amado’ gave readers a lot to think about. A number of plot threads progressed. It will be interesting to see how Naruto and the others will react to Amado’s offer.
