Archery Anime Tsurune Gets Film Adaptation
Last year, I fell in love with an archery anime called Tsurune, which resonated with me more than I was expecting. Earlier today, it was announced that Tsurune film is in the works from Kyoto Animation.
The Tsurune film was announced this morning during a livestream event for the anime’s second anniversary. Director Takuya Yamamura will be returning for the film.
Nothing else is known about the film at this time; we have no idea if it will be a recap of the series or an entirely new story. But Kyoto Animation did release the above image and the below video for the anniversary and the announcement.
The upcoming film was confirmed by the anime’s official Twitter account:

The official Twitter also released a new illustration from Yamamura to commemorate the film announcement:

Tsurune is based on a series of Japanese light novels written by Kotoko Ayano and illustrated by Chinatsu Morimoto. The first novel won a special award in the 2016 Kyoto Animation Award competition. Kyoto Animation published the novels and later adapted them into the anime series, which premiered in October of 2018.
Here is the synopsis according to Crunchyroll, which streams all 13 episodes of season 1 (plus bonus episode!):
When Narumiya Minato joins Prefectural Kazemai High School, he is quickly invited to join the archery club by the club’s advisor, Tommy-sensei. His childhood friends Takehaya Seiya and Yamanouchi Ryohei swiftly agree to join, but Minato is hesitant at first. Because Minato is the rare student with experience in archery, Tommy-sensei orders him to give a demonstration, which Minato does… except his arrow doesn’t hit the target. It is revealed that Minato has developed a terrible dysfunction regarding archery.
My fingers are crossed that this will be a brand-new, original story. I love the anime, and I know that recap films often include new scenes and help generate interest in a property that can often lead to even more content, but if I want to see the same story, I’ll just rewatch the episodes. Especially since the ending of Tsurune was so open-ended. There are so many places it can go!
