Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 1×179 Review – “Victor’s Scheme”
The latest episode of the Boruto anime focused on the Kara organization. ‘Victor’s Scheme’ made it clear that not everyone is loyal to Jigen.
One of the complaints the Boruto manga readers have is that the narrative hasn’t given us a lot of information about the Kara organization. The current villains are just not well-written. That’s why I’m appreciative of the anime trying to flesh them out. It’s not perfect, but at least it’s something. ‘Victor’s Scheme’ showed Victor trying to steal an important vessel without Jigen knowing.
I liked the callback to what Orochimaru said about Victor’s regenerative abilities. While Victor’s a very powerful opponent to go up against, his healing factor had a severe drawback. Unlike Orochimaru’s healing ability, when a part of Victor’s body regenerated, some other organ took damage. That’s the reason he hasn’t been able to regrow one of his legs. His eye’s also hurt.
Compared to the rest of the Kara members, Victor, an old man, was running out of time. He couldn’t wait around for Jigen’s vessel to be ready. That’s why betraying Jigen made sense. Of course, it didn’t work in Victor’s favor. But he had to do something to keep himself alive. It was a desperate and dangerous move, especially when we know Jigen didn’t trust him or Deepa (who died during his battle with Boruto, Mitsuki, and Salad).
‘Victor’s Scheme’ also gave us the proper anime debut for Delta. She’s young, strong, and has an attitude problem. Delta’s also not fully human. Unlike the ninjas running around in this world, the members of the Kara organization have had their bodies augmented with technology by Amado. They didn’t work hard to obtain their powers like ninjas. The Kara members are walking cyborgs and that’s why they’re tough to take down.
The ‘Tradition vs. Scientific Advancement’ argument has been one of the main themes in the Boruto franchise. With the anime directly adapting things from the manga, said debate will continue in the upcoming episodes.
With Jigen’s important vessel now lost, it’s only a matter of time before Boruto and his friends get involved.
