And the Fangirl’s (sort of) Rejoiced: Warner Bros Registers Wonder Woman Domain and James Gunn Wants More Female Characters

The rumor mill is on overdrive after Tech Times discovered that Warner Bros registered four web domains including WonderWomanTheMovie.com (as well as JusticeLeagueFilm.com, ShazamMovie.com and AquamanMovie.com). While this isn’t really a surprise it’s certainly a welcome step towards the possibility of a long overdue Wonder Woman movie (via ComicBookResources).

Seriously why haven’t they made one already?

In other news, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn told audiences at DragonCon that he is hoping to introduce more female characters into the Guardians world. Unfortunately he also said that Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) will not be one of those characters as they want to keep the earth based heroes separate for the moment (via Collider).

And that’s what you missed in our ongoing quest for a female lead superhero film.

  1. Supergirl, Elektra, Barb Wire, Vampirella (made for Showtime). That’s it for live-action female superhero movies based on comic books. Among them, I would only count Supergirl as a genuine female led superhero movie. I think it’s not a question of Wonder Woman, but female superhero movies in general. Wonder Woman however, is a movie Hollywood MUST not screw up. I am willing to wait as long as it takes for them to get that right and not rush things.

    1. Dude Warner Bros has been working on a Wonder Woman film for like 20 years. There have been over 5 different incarnations of this project including the Joss Whedon one. Wonder Woman is an iconic figure is more recognisable than most of the superhero that have films currently in rotation. Since 1990 there have been SIX Batman movies. SIX! And two Superman movies including one that was a flop. It’s been 14 years since X-Men rebooted the Superhero film. It’s been 6 years since Iron Man was released to surprising success (and let’s face it, Wonder Woman is a much more recognisable figure than Iron Man). And 9 years since Nolan’s Batman Begins. And you’re telling me that Warner Bros needs more time to make a decent Wonder Woman movie? It’s been over 30 years since Superman was released. How much longer do they need?

      1. Hard to say how much time (forgot to mention Catwoman..another ugh I want to forget). I just want a good Wonder Woman movie, and not rushing for a crappy one (which I have a bad feeling about). It would break my heart to see that screwed up because Hollywood was thinking of money and demographics..something I see often, even with the majority of the Marvel movies.Wonder Woman on her own isnt a very exciting character..powers and origin arent all that original, nothing really shouting cooooool, except her costume being pretty cool. HOWEVER, give her good character developing stories such as the many many great writer/artist runs since 1987, some great character driven appearances in cartoons and her character endures beyond the fandom exponentially developed from the Lynda Carter starred TV show. I have read countless fantastic Wonder Woman stories in comics that retains her rightful position as the most popular of female superheroines because her character is more than her image and powers. It would be nice to see all that in movies as well.
