The upcoming direct-to-video animated adaptation of the famous DC Comics story Batman: The Killing Joke will be making its world premiere during Comic-Con International in San Diego next month.
According to IGN, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that Batman: The Killing Joke will make its debut during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con on the 22nd of July. The premiere of the movie will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the project’s cast and crew.
Kevin Conroy will be voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman while Mark Hamill will voice the Joker. Kevin Conroy also talked about the project during his panel at MegaCon 2016. Famous voice actress Tara Strong will bring Barbara Gordon/Batgirl to life. Barbara’s father, Commissioner James Gordon, will be played by Ray Wise.
Batman: The Killing Joke is directed by Sam Liu. He also directed Justice League vs. Teen Titans which I enjoyed very much. Bruce Timm and Sam Register are serving as executive producers on the project with Alan Burnett as the co-producer.
Here’s a description of the animated film:
“Batman: The Killing Joke takes a journey into the dark psyche of the Clown Prince of Crime – from his humble beginnings as a struggling comedian to his fateful encounter with Batman that changes both of their lives forever. Years later, and now escaped from Arkham Asylum, The Joker devises a plan to prove that one bad day can make anyone as insane as he is – setting his sights on Commissioner Gordon. It’s up to the Dark Knight to put a stop to The Joker’s latest scheme and save one of Gotham City’s finest. Following a gripping prologue introducing Barbara Gordon’s heroic adventures alongside Batman as Batgirl, Batman: The Killing Joke stays true to the authentic tale that has held fans’ imaginations for nearly three decades – spotlighting the birth of a Super-Villain, the fortitude of a Super Hero and the punchline that will leave you speechless.” (via Comic Book Resources)
The film will be available for Digital HD download on 26th July, 2016. The DVD and Blu-ray can be purchased this year on the 2nd of August.
