CultureFly’s Spring 2023 Avatar: The Last Airbender “Ember Island Players” Theme Box – Review
The theme for CultureFly’s Spring 2023 Avatar: The Last Airbender box was the Ember Island Players. The subscription box contained a total of 6 items, with my favorite item being a wireless speaker!
Deciding to have an entire subscription box be themed around the Ember Island Players is a very unique creative choice by CultureFly. And I’m here for it. Seeing a stage play spewing Fire Nation propaganda while our main cast of heroes sat in the audience was a well-written moment in the ATLA animated series. While humorous, it also shed light on the dangers of biased media content (a major issue the world still faces today).
ATLA was an impressively written show and I can’t wait to see what the creative team has planned for the upcoming continuation.
Anyway, back to the box!
Even though it contained 6 items, I do think that two of the items can be considered filler offerings. We got a small sticky notepad featuring Zuko’s Blue Spirit Mask as well as a button pin showing a version of Uncle Iroh. I don’t have nothing against a sticky notepad (I use them quite a bit), but still, that and the pin left me feeling ‘Meh!’
On the other hand, the plastic “Fire Flakes Tub” is definitely something I will be using the next time I’m in the mood to eat popcorn while watching a movie or TV series at home.
The “Koizilla” hand puppet was an interesting novelty item. The hand puppet felt like an actual plush you could squeeze hard once you were done playing with it. Seeing the creature holding a tiny Zhao added to the fun vibe. It’s a well-made plush as far as the stitching and details are concerned. You can also use it as a display piece if you want. And while the mouth doesn’t move, there are tiny holes inside for your fingers to move the puppet’s little arms. Cute!
The art print features the Ember Island Players poster from the animated series. I already have it displayed in my room.
As for the clothing item, the box included a half-sleeve hoodie featuring the version of Toph from the stage play. CultureFly continues to offer high-quality clothing items. It fit me well and I liked the placement of the design at the front. The back had the Earth Nation symbol on it. My only gripe with the green hoodie would be that I would have preferred for it to have some kind of pocket or pouch in the front.
The plastic wireless speaker was my favorite item from the current box. It measures approximately 6 inches x 4 inches. I really like it when subscription boxes contain items I can actually use. With the front design featuring Zuko, connecting the speaker to my cellphone was easy. Let’s be real. It’s not the best-sounding portable Bluetooth speaker and the buttons are “clicky”, but it will get the job done. And yes, it comes with a charging cable and an instruction manual. It also has a tiny loop on the side.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the next theme for the Avatar: The Last Airbender box will be.
