Daisy Ridley Is Coming Back as Rey for a New Star Wars Movie!

One of the major announcements during Star Wars Celebration 2023 involved big-screen movies. And the most major news out of all three planned movies, in my opinion, happened to be Daisy Ridley coming back as Rey to create a new Jedi Order!

The upcoming Rey-led movie is as yet untitled. However, we do know that it will take place 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. A more grownup Rey will be on a mission to rebuild a new Jedi Order by looking for Force-sensitive recruits.

Daisy Ridley took the stage alongside Kathleen Kennedy for the announcement. And yes, the news has got me excited. I would like to see Rey’s story continue. I would also like to see Finn, Poe, and Rose Tico appear. Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico, deserves a well-written Star Wars comeback after everything she was put through online.

John Boyega did say he won’t be returning to the franchise. But time has passed since then. So, let’s see what happens.

Fans are already speculating about Adam Driver coming back as Kylo Ren. And, due to how no one really dies in the Star Wars franchise, I can see Kylo and (heck!) even Luke Skywalker appearing as Force Ghosts or in some other capacity.

The upcoming film will be directed by Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel).

Now, due to the track record of previously announced Star Wars movies, it’s very possible this one doesn’t get made at all. But still, I have hope. Regardless of how the recent Star Wars trilogy was received, it did make money at the box office. So, bringing Rey back to star in a new film makes sense.

As for the other two movie projects, we have a movie by Dave Filoni that will focus on the New Republic and serve as a tie-in and also wrap up the interconnected narrative of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi will be directed by James Mangold. The story will take viewers back to the early years of the Old Republic. Set a whopping 25,000 years before the prequels, it is described as a biblical epic.

As for the shows, fans got a teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action Ahsoka series starring Rosario Dawson as the titular character. The teaser featured fan-favorite animated characters making their jump to live-action. As of writing this, Ahsoka will be released sometime this August.

Coming in 2024, we have Star Wars: The Acolyte. The upcoming show is set during the end of the High Republic, almost 100 years before Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The story will explore the Dark Side of the Force.

The audience was also treated to footage for Andor season 2 (which is supposed to debut in 2024) and the Skeleton Crew. For those interested, the Skeleton Crew stars Jude Law, and it is about a group of young kids who get lost in the galaxy and have to find their way back to their tiny home planet.

From what I could understand, the Skeleton Crew is set during the events of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. The show will premiere on Disney+ sometime this year.

So, yeah, there’s a lot for Star Wars fans to be excited about (or side-eye).

Let me know which movies and shows you are most excited about!
