Spring into Summer with These Hot Toys

Summer is just around the corner (you know, in like three months) and it’s never too early to start thinking about the newest batch of awesome toys! Last week, I attended Toy Insider’s Spring Fling event, where more than a dozen companies set up shop to showcase their upcoming lines. Let’s take a look at what caught my eye.

Playmates Toys

You may remember that Playmates brought a massive booth to last year’s Toy Fair, but that much of it was under embargo and couldn’t be photographed. That’s not so this time!

Based on the upcoming Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Mix ‘N Match Mutation figures were the primary focus. (They even had a bin of pieces and let people customize their own figure! You couldn’t take it with you, but it was still fun to assemble. Nine-year-old me would have spent all day building creatures.) These will hit stores after the show debuts.

Shipping this summer are Splinter (with hair! this was only a cardboard display at Toy Fair), the Mutant Tots, Raph and Rocksteady on their cycles, and the 40th-anniversary figures based on the original artwork from the comic.

And this is something I was dying to see finished, as they only had a prototype at Toy Fair – the Miraculous Ladybug Eiffel Tower playset. Three levels of play featuring all sorts of hidden compartments.

And of course, the Godzilla x Kong line of toys! The 13″ Kong and Godzilla are supposed to come out sometime this fall (though I was told it may be as early as August). The Kong figure has a twist-waist swivel-punch action (which was hard for me to demo – and film – one handed), while the Godzilla lights up and sprays mist (although the mist was not working that day).

Just Play

As if I didn’t already spend enough money on these cute little Disney Doorables as it was, now they have Star Wars ones! My favorite was the little flocked Chewie, who even had his own flocked car.

Spin Master

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Rubik’s Cube, Spin Master will be releasing a retro re-design that resembles the original cube, except instead of the normal yellow color, it will have gold. There is also a “sensory cube”, a Rubik’s specifically designed for people with visual impairments. Each color is represented by a different raised design.

Spin Master also brought out their newest line of Paw Patrol pups and vehicles, based on the new jungle-themed season. The jungle pups’ vehicle designs are all based on animals, like a turtle and a rhino.

Deddy Bears

My big discovery of the event was Deddy Bears. These bears are apparently super popular on TikTok and somehow I have never seen them before. They’re based on traditional monsters like vampires and zombies. The small ones come in little coffins while the larger ones come in body bags, complete with autopsy reports.

That’s just some of the awesome toys I saw at this year’s Spring Fling!

What are you most excited about?
