After an exciting second season, DC’s Stargirl fans will be able to relive the highlights on the upcoming Blu-Ray release.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of DC’s Stargirl: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray that I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.

DC’s Stargirl built on an interesting first season with a thrilling second season. The season was filled with many highlights and built to a sensational climax against primary antagonist Eclipso. Fans wanting to relive the season can do so when DC’s Stargirl: The Complete Second Season is released on Blu-Ray on February 8, 2022.

I was excited to receive an advance copy of the Blu-Ray for my review. I started by rewatching a few of my favorite episodes from the season. The picture quality and sound worked great on my large TV. The sound really shined during the season’s two landmark fight sequences. The episodes that I chose to watch remained as good as I remembered.

The menu is easy to navigate with a static image of the poster feature on the Blu-Ray’s cover. There is an option for subtitles, but the audio menu only has one option of English. The Blu-Ray package also includes a code for the digital copy of the episodes for fans who wish to watch them on the go.

The most important part of any DVD or Blu-Ray is the bonus features. This Blu-Ray set has three features throughout its three discs. The first was a feature on the production being set primarily in Georgia. It was interesting to see how they chose the various locations for the exterior of Blue Valley, Nebraska in Georgia and sometimes in Dallas. However, the feature felt more like an advertisement for prospective productions to film in Georgia. While I have followed the entertainment business from an early age, the average fan isn’t interested in hearing about the tax incentives that Georgia provides. Still, the shots of behind-the-scenes footage of filming about the various locations were interesting to see.

The next featurette delved into the history of sidekicks of DC Comics and featured footage from all the current DCTV series, including Stargirl, Superman & Lois, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. The absence of recently ended series Black Lightning and Supergirl was notable. The footage and comic panels were interweaved with interviews from the show’s creators and select actors. Though the featurette was interesting, the lack of featurettes solely focusing on DC’s Stargirl is unfortunate. The final and best bonus feature of the set is the gag reel. There are a few chuckles throughout the short reel and it’s great to see the show’s cast have fun.

While the bonus features provided are entertaining, there is so much potential for more. I would have loved to see more featurettes with the cast talking about the season and their character’s pivotal moments. There was also potential for a featurette discussing the making of either of the season’s biggest fight scenes, or other aspects of the season such as the original JSA flashbacks or the season’s minor and major villains. As a fan of audio commentaries, I would have loved to see the cast do commentary on at least one of the episodes.

Though there’s always the possibility for more, the Blu-Ray for the second season of DC’s Stargirl is a great package. Any fan of the series will love to rewatch the season’s thirteen episodes and the provided Blu-Ray features are a nice complement to the episodes. The Blu-Ray will release on February 8, 2022, and will help prepare fans for the show’s upcoming third season.
