As someone that has considered myself a fangirl for most of my life, there are a few things that I thought were true about fan gear.
First rule of fan gear, all the good stuff is normally in the male-designated areas of the store. Yeah for gender equality! Second, the choices are limited. Usually if you are lucky, you will find a t-shirt, a pair of socks, and flimsy ball caps. If you are really lucky, you will be able to find that one jacket that’s left in a size small. Third, whatever it is, no matter how old you are, you’re going to walk away looking like you you’re 12.
When I found out I was going to be writing for The Geekiary, I thought it was a great way to get the word out that fan gear is finally growing up! Today I’m going to be telling you about what is happening at Coach. Yes, Coach – the same luxury brand that was established in 1941. As a brand, they have steered away from controversy – unlike a lot of luxury brands that have played dumb to their racist designs.
Coach has been collaborating with Disney! I’m not talking about the cheap ball cap that you wore when you were six. I’m talking actual leather purses, canvas totes, earrings and more! I know what you’re thinking: everything is Mickey and Minnie. Wrong! That was last year. This year it’s Dumbo, Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, and 101 Dalmatians (I had to buy one), just to name a few.
I was surprised to see a few of the more obscure Disney characters on hoodies (The Aristocats), a jacket (Peter Pan), a cashmere blend sweater (the crocodile from Peter Pan), and t-shirts (Gideon Cat from Pinocchio). Price? I won’t lie – it’s not cheap – but I wouldn’t call it expensive to look like an adult fan person. Prices range from $20-895.
Check out the entire Coach Disney line!
