It’s happening. The long-running Downton Abbey franchise is coming to an end with Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale hitting theatres on September 12, 2025.

Would I be okay with Downton Abbey live-action movies being released every couple of years for the foreseeable future? Duh!

But I also understand how that isn’t possible. So, even though it saddens me as a fan, I’m also very excited about how creator Julian Fellowes will close the curtain on the iconic Crawley Family and the staff. The upcoming third film has the OG cast making a return as the characters enter the 1930s to begin a new chapter in their lives.

The teaser trailer shows the Crawleys attending a horse race. We also get to see characters from Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022). I’m kind of disappointed the teaser trailer didn’t show Thomas Barrow. However, with how he left to work for Guy Dexter in the second movie, and Guy did show up for a second in the promotional material, I’m sure Thomas will have a role to play in the third outing. I highly doubt Fellowes will use the new movie to mess things up for Thomas, especially with him finding happiness as a queer man after so much trouble. If I were to theorize, I think Thomas and Guy’s romantic relationship will be going strong.

I’m not sure if the Crawleys will be leaving Downton to attend the opening of Guy’s movie or if Guy and the rest will return to London for a special premiere. But regardless, I’m so here for more Guy and Thomas.

As for the Crawleys leaving the Downton estate for good, I think that might be a misdirect in the teaser. But then again, I could be wrong.

Here’s the teaser!
