FUN.com x Ghostbusters Shoes “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top” Review

FUN.com recently announced a shoe collaboration with the long-running Ghostbusters IP and I’m here to share my thoughts about my pair of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top.

I was provided with a free pair of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top shoes to review. The opinions I have shared are my own.

One of the best things about being a geek is the merchandise, especially the type of merch that you can use in your daily routine. FUN.com is a well-known purveyor of usable merch. And being a Ghostbusters fan I was excited to try out the new FUN.com x Ghostbusters collab that features three differently styled shoes.

They are:

• Slimer Shoes ($59.99)
• Ghostbusters Uniform shoe ($49.99)
• Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top ($49.99)

I like how the three offerings vary. Being all green with the Slimer Shoes to finding a middle ground with the Ghostbusters Uniform shoe and then going all white with the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top was a good design choice.

My top two would be the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top and the Ghostbusters Uniform shoe. But in a more objective sense, I do think that all three pairs of shoes are well-designed and stick to the Ghostbusters theme.

Talking about the Stay Puft Hi-Tops, you can immediately see the iconic giant Marshmallow Man all over the pair. I mean, each faux leather shoe literally has the monster’s face on the front (or the tongue) complete with the character’s sailor cap, blue collar, and red neckerchief. The blue hatband has the words “Stay Puft” on it. The expression on the monster’s face is a mischievous one.

Below the face are the white laces. The base of the shoe is blue, again sticking with the character’s color palette. The blue base also has a white streak running through most of it.

The back of the shoe has a red bootstrap. Also, right below the bootstrap is a vertical blue band, along the heel, with the words “Stay Puft” embroidered on it with white thread.

My favorite design element is how the shoes actually feature a puff to them. The ‘Hi-Top’ part of the shoe has three layers of puff. You can actually press the layers from the outside. The layers are squishy. Below the layers the rest of the shoe is non-puff but it does have two lines (embroidered stitching) running through most of the surface to give an illusion of a puff to resemble the Marshmallow Man’s body.

The Ghostbusters licensing is present on the insole, ensuring that the overall design doesn’t get ruined with text and numbers unlike some other offerings out there (you know what kind of merch I’m talking about). Turning the shoes over, the outsoles had a sticker stating these shoes had all man-made material. You can easily take the stickers off.

I wore these rubber sole shoes as soon as I unpacked them. They were easy to slip on for me. I didn’t have to tighten the laces or anything. I wore the shoes indoors while I completed certain tasks around my living space. Then I decided to wear them to run some errands outside. I found the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Hi-Top shoes to be quite comfortable. I really liked how the shoes hugged my ankles.

I plan to wear these shoes to work this week. I can already tell this pair will be noticed by everyone. They are just those kinds of shoes.

The only drawback I can think of is one you have to keep in mind whenever you want to wear white shoes. The white surface will appear to get dirtier faster than non-white shoes. On a more personal note, making certain the corners of the sailor collar weren’t covered by the sides of the shoe and the neckerchief wasn’t covered by the laces was a thing for me. I wanted the face to be fully presented. I’m sure I will stop caring the more I wear this particular pair, but I just thought I would mention that nitpick to be as transparent with my opinions as possible.
