Hellboy Universe Gets Three Original Audiobooks From RBmedia’s GraphicAudio!
RBmedia, the largest audiobook publisher in the world, has announced that its GraphicAudio brand will be releasing three original audiobooks that are set in the Hellboy Universe. The upcoming audiobooks have been written by bestselling author Christoper Golden. The first book titled Hellboy: A Plague of Wasps will drop this July!
These three audiobooks have been written exclusively for GraphicAudio. Fans can expect high production quality featuring a full cast of actors, sound effects, and cinematic music. Each audiobook will be accompanied by cover artwork by the iconic Mike Mignola and award-winning colorist Dave Stewart.
Golden shared, “Having written Hellboy comics and novels and co-written the screenplay for the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man film, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to experiment with original audiobooks. The audiobooks form a trilogy that picks up key story threads from the comics that Hellboy fans won’t want to miss, while providing an exciting jumping-on point for casual fans and introducing a brand new character who will eventually appear in the comics.”
GraphicAudio’s Creative Director and voice talent, Scott McCormick said, “When I started working at GraphicAudio, I wanted us to get the rights to one property: Hellboy. Now, not only do I get to direct a Hellboy adventure, but I also get to direct three all-new, original stories. Bonus: I get to play Hellboy—and not just any Hellboy, but Hellboy in love. Dreams do come true.”
The first three original audiobooks are!
Hellboy: A Plague of Wasps – Things turn strange and dangerous when Hellboy accompanies his girlfriend, Anastasia Bransfield, on a trip to Brazil. The duo venture into the rainforest to stop an evil force from spreading.
This audiobook will be available come July 31, 2023, wherever audiobooks are sold. It continues the story from the Hellboy in Love comic books.
Lobster Johnson: The Proteus Club – With the story set in 1933, we get to see reporter Cynthia Tynan finding herself drawn into the mystery surrounding the disappearance of several prominent New Yorkers. She seeks the aid of Hellboy’s childhood hero the Lobster. Expect to see them confronting German spies, religious lunatics, and monstrously transformed people who have been subjected to hideous experimentation.
While no specific release date has been shared, the second book is looking at an October debut.
Hellboy and the BPRD: The Goddess of Manhattan – Hellboy, Liz Sherman, and Abe Sapien are drawn into a bizarre case linked both to Hellboy’s adventure with Anastasia in Brazil and to Lobster Johnson.
This audiobook has been co-authored by Young Hellboy writer Thomas E. Sniegoski. And it will be available sometime in November.
As of writing this, all three titles are available for pre-order. The pre-order discount brings the cost of each book to $10.79 instead of the regular price of $17.99.
With a running time of approximately 5 hours each, the books have been categorized in the ‘Horror’ genre with an Ages 15+ content rating.
The current year is shaping up to be quite exciting for Hellboy fans. Along with the original audiobooks, the fandom is looking forward to the live-action Hellboy: The Crooked Man film starring Jack Kesy as the titular lead character.
And there’s also the Hellboy Web of Wyrd video game which has been described as a rogue-lite action-adventure/brawler.
I’m quite excited about the video game. I like how the dev team kept it true to the visuals from the comic books.
