“Warrior Nun” Resurrects After Netflix Cancellation!
It finally happened. After months of impressive efforts by the fandom, the canceled Netflix live-action show Warrior Nun will continue to live. Now, whether it will get a third and final season or a movie remains to be seen.
Even though I couldn’t make myself get into Warrior Nun, I’m always happy when fandoms are able to save a show. I was part of the successful campaign to get Hit the Floor renewed. So, I can relate to what the Warrior Nun fandom has gone through.
The fortunate news was shared by the show’s creator Simon Davis Barry via Twitter. And while Barry didn’t share any specific details at least the fandom can rest a bit easy knowing that it’s not the end for their favorite show.
For those who aren’t familiar, Warrior Nun has been described as a fantasy drama based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn. The series follows Ava Silva (Alba Baptista) who discovers she has supernatural powers and becomes involved in an ancient order of warrior nuns.
The show premiered on Netflix back on July 2, 2020. However, the streaming giant decided to cancel the show in December 2022, with the series having aired a total of 18 episodes across two seasons. The cancellation hit the fandom hard, especially because the second season only debuted on November 10, 2022.
It served as another example of Netflix canceling shows without allowing them the proper time to build a fanbase.
There’s also an issue of streaming services being quick to cancel shows that feature queer female characters.
Of course, with the second season ending on a cliffhanger, the fandom needed (and deserved) closure. What followed was a months-long impressive movement that finally bore fruit.
I’m just so happy for the Warrior Nun fandom!
As for how the show will continue, according to TVLine, no deals have been struck yet. As of right now, the continuation could be through a standalone movie or a shortened third season. What’s interesting is that the continuation will likely not happen on Netflix. So, let’s see which platform decides to give Warrior Nun a home.
The renewal news is only going to fuel the fandom to keep spreading the word, hopefully expanding viewership and ensuring the (as of now) final chapter is the biggest one yet!
Are you a fan of Warrior Nun? Are you excited about the renewal?
