Animal Kingdom 3×11 Review: Jackpot
‘Jackpot’ finally gave us the Smurf and Lucy showdown we have all been waiting for. Smurf knew Lucy stole her money and she wants it back. This week’s episode also served as Shawn Hatosy’s (who plays Pope) directorial debut. There is a scene near the end of the episode featuring Smurf and Lucy which he captured beautifully.
I was provided a screener of ‘Jackpot’ for review. The opinions are my own.
Smurf understood her boys weren’t going to listen to her and go after Lucy. So, of course, she found a way to bring Lucy to her by kidnapping Marco. Even though there are a lot of male characters in the story, it is awesome to see that two women (Smurf and Lucy) are currently the most dangerous beings in the series.
‘Jackpot’ had a lot of tense scenes, and for a second I was worried for Pope’s life. However, considering how the episode ended, I am now worried about Smurf. Lucy finally got into Andrew’s head and you know he is likely going to try and kill Smurf because she had Baz murdered. With only two more episodes to go, the finale is probably going to end on a cliffhanger and I’m growing anxious.
Also, J has been planning stuff behind Smurf’s back. Is she going to find out what J’s been up to? Well, she is Smurf. So, yes. But what matters is if she will be able to figure the potential danger she is in before it’s too late.
As for the rest of the episode, Pope asked Craig to adopt Lena. They showed Craig wanting to be a father in the previous episode. But I don’t think he will be okay with adopting his niece. Also, at this point, Lena is better off staying at a loving foster home than with her actual family of criminals.

Deran and Adrian also had a nice scene which involved making sandwiches together for breakfast. I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit worried about their relationship. It is too good. Too safe. Something bad is bound to happen!
Some thoughts and questions
- Do you think Pope will tell the rest of the Cody men about Smurf killing Baz?
- Mia has been supporting J a lot. While I like her as a character, I don’t think things will end well for her when the truth about Baz’s murder is revealed.
- Is Pope going to kill Smurf?
- Where is Frankie?
- Was I supposed to feel sorry for Lucy when Marco died? Lucy is a criminal and a murderer. So, excuse me if I am unable to feel sorry for characters who shed tears when a family member is shot dead but are okay with killing other people without a single thought.
