It’s time for the fandom to say goodbye to the iconic TV queer couple known as Tarlos. Deadline has reported that the upcoming fifth season of 911: Lone Star will serve as the series finale.

The fifth and final chapter of 911: Lone Star is set to air come September 23, 2024. It will only consist of 12 episodes with the final episode airing sometime in early 2025. I mean, 12 episodes aren’t a lot considering the ensemble cast. But I guess nothing can be done about that.

Now, for those hoping that 911: Lone Star will make the jump to ABC similar to the mothership 911 show and continue airing (with Evan Buckley finally coming out as queer in season 7), the chances of such a thing happening are nonexistent. As of how things currently stand, a new 911 spin-off might be created. However, 911: Lone Star is indeed coming to a close.

According to what Deadline reported, most of the cast (since last year) were aware that the series could possibly end with a fifth season due to “two unsuccessful attempts at contract negotiations” over at Fox. OG cast member Sierra McClain left the show after the most recent round of negotiations.

The fifth season trying to tell Judd Ryder’s story (Jim Parrack) without McClain’s Grace showing up will be… interesting. The two characters became new parents on the show.

Even though the viewership numbers were solid, the ever-changing landscape of network television and associated costs of producing such live-action shows has been touted as major reasons for 911: Lone Star‘s cancelation. The Hollywood-spanning strike also played a role.

911: Lone Star was created and executive-produced by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. The cast includes Rob Lowe, Gina Torres, Natacha Karam, Ronen Rubinstein, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael Silva, Brianna Baker, and Mateo Chavez.

Rubinstein plays TK while Silva plays Carlos, with both queer characters making up the ship Tarlos. The fourth season had the two tie the knot after putting the couple through a whole bunch of drama, including Carlos’ previous marriage to a woman. (The whole thing made no sense to me!)

As someone who covers the Tarlos-centric scenes over on our The Geekiary YouTube channel, I did feel that the fourth season had a very “finale” vibe to it. In a way, if the show didn’t return for a fifth installment, I think season four tied up certain storylines in a satisfying manner.

Coming to what fans can expect when the new season debuts later this month, the team will need to handle a disaster involving a train derailment. From what was shown in the first-look video, the train derailment won’t be the only tragedy. Of course, there’s a cloud of toxic gas creeping towards the team. Also, from going over some of the other promotional content that has been shown, an attack from a swarm of bees is also going to be a thing.

Talking about Tarlos, the first-look video has Carlos mention to TK how every second he gets with TK is a gift and he’s done wasting it.

I don’t know what would prompt Carlos to say such a thing, but, if I were to assume, I think Carlos’ new job will take him away from TK and I think he will decide to choose being closer to TK instead of pursuing said career.

Regardless of what my personal feelings might be regarding how Tarlos was handled over the course of four seasons, I have to give kudos to 911: Lone Star for bringing such a prominent queer couple to network television in such a manner. Tarlos will continue being part of queer history on TV.

Are you sad to see 911: Lone Star end?
