JK Rowling Writes “Expecto Patronum” Tattoo For Harry Potter Fan
Proving once again that she’s the actual best, JK Rowling came through for a Harry Potter fan that requested a hand written tattoo saying “Expecto Patronum”.
The fan, Twitter user @AlwaysJLover, wrote a heartfelt request to the author via Twitter explaining her experience with self harm and how she wants to get the words “Expecto Patronum” tattooed on the spot where she most self harmed. She thanked Rowling for helping her through the tough times – as many of us can relate to – and then asked if the author would be willing to write the words for her.

“I’m not, but it’s who I am. I’m also trying my hardest for stop self-harming,” wrote @AlwaysJLover. “It hurts my body, but it hurts my soul more. I know you won’t judge, that’s why I’m telling you this.”
For those of you that don’t know, “Expecto Patronum” is the spell used to defend against Dementors, the terrifying guards of the wizard prison Azkaban. They suck on your soul and make it so you feel like you’ll never be happy again. Chocolate’s all well and good for single encounters, but prolonged exposure definitely requires the use of “Expecto Patronum”. Dementors are a pretty blatant metaphor for depression so it’s a fitting way to ward off potential self harm.
Rowling did not disappoint. She replied to @AlwaysJLover with a beautiful picture of “Expecto Patronum” that will no doubt make for a great tattoo.

“I love that you’re working to heal and protect yourself” tweeted JK Rowling. “You deserve this. I hope it helps.”
Just in case you need a little “Expecto Patronum” in your life, Hypable says you can get a temporary version of the tat from momentaryink.com with proceeds going to those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.
She’s great right? We love her.
