Seven Seas to License the Works of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu in English
Rejoice, English-speaking fans of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, because we’re about to get their works in English – officially! Seven Seas, the #1 independently owned manga and light novel publisher in North America, announced today that they have acquired licenses for Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong (The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System), Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation), and Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heaven Official’s Blessing)!
These three titles are growing increasingly popular worldwide as the various adaptations start appearing on more and more streaming services, but while we can watch these titles virtually anywhere at this point, reading them has been a little more difficult. Until now! Now we will have official English translations of MXTX’s books, and I could not be more excited.
Mo Dao Zu Shi is probably the most well-known, with a donghua (the third and final season premieres this week!) viewable on YouTube and a live-action adaption (The Untamed) available both on Netflix and Amazon Prime (among others). MDZS is my favorite, and watching the live-action catapulted me on my descent into C-dramas, from which I have not yet escaped. MDZS will be published in five volumes, the first of which releases in December 2021.
Tian Guan Ci Fu (which is Admin Angel’s favorite) is perhaps next on the list, with a donghua that is currently streaming on Funimation and Netflix and a live-action adaptation that recently started filming. I am a fan of the donghua but am not quite as big in the fandom – at least yet. (I’m tentatively excited about the live-action.) This book is a long one, and will be published in eight volumes, the first of which comes out in December 2021.
I’ll admit to being unfamiliar with Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong, and I haven’t seen the donghua because I’m not really a fan of the animation style. However, after this announcement I’ll have to make it a point to check it out. (I’ll add it to the list!) MXTX’s first book is also the shortest, and will publish in four volumes, the first of which will drop in December 2021.
Seven Seas has licensed official translations of the danmei (not the manhua) and the first volume of all three are currently open for preorders, set to be released on December 7, 2021 in both print and digital. (Yes, all of them.)
Seven Seas has said that these volumes will include the short stories, and that they do not intend to censor – so these books will be rated 17+. They will include exclusive art (as you can see from the preview images) and internal illustrations. (No merch is planned for the first volume, but maybe we can get them to change their minds.)
I am definitely off to pre-order these, and you all should be, too, if you’re a fan of MXTX or other danmei authors. If they sell well, Seven Seas may license more! (Psst, Priest has some good ones.) Plus, as officially licensed works, every purchase will support the original creator.
For more information on the individual titles, as well as links to our coverage, be sure to check out our masterpost on the works of MXTX! (I wasn’t kidding when I said we were fans.)
