Fans of the highly-anticipated My Hero Academia spin-off anime My Hero Academia: Vigilantes will be able to enjoy the series on Crunchyroll come April 7, 2025. A new trailer has been released to create more hype.

The latest trailer for the upcoming My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime was unveiled by Toho Co., Ltd. It does a good job of sharing certain details about the story as well as the main cast. The anime will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide excluding Asia, with new episodes premiering weekly, same-day as Japan.

For those who might not know, MHA: Vigilantes is set in the same fictional world of the popular My Hero Academia main story (from mangaka Kohei Horikoshi). However, the spin-off is set before the events of the main MHA timeline. The narrative focuses on characters who want to use their quirks to help people. However, they aren’t trained or licensed heroes. So, they operate without legal sanction. Hence, the term vigilantes.

The MHA: Vigilantes manga was created by Hideyuki Furuhashi, Betten Court, and Kohei Horikoshi. It debuted back in August 20, 2016 and concluded on May 28, 2022. It consists of 15 volumes. The first volume in English was released by Viz Media back in 2018.

The lead character of the story is Koichi Haimawari, a young man who uses his Quirk to help others even though he isn’t a… you guessed it… licensed Hero. Due to certain events that unfold, he and Kazuho Haneyama get recruited by vigilante Knuckleduster.

Koichi Haimawari’s has the Quirk Slide and Glide. As the name implies, he’s able to quickly travel across any flat surface. However, he needs to make contact with the surface in at least three places. As for Kazuho Haneyama, she has the Quirk Leap. So, yeah, she can jump several meters high.

You can watch the trailer below. I think that even if you aren’t too familiar with MHA lore (like I am), the spin-off anime can still be enjoyed for being a superhero vs supervillain narrative with interesting characters and some cool action sequences. I’m not sure as of writing this post, but I do feel tempted to review the weekly anime episodes for The Geekiary and maybe it will make me (and other viewers) jump back into watching the later seasons of the MHA anime.

The opening theme song in the trailer is titled “Kekka Orai” and it has been performed by Kocchi no Kento, best known for his viral song “Hai Yorokonde”.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been directed by Kenichi Suzuki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders; Cells at Work!). The series composition and script were written by Yosuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia; Trigun). The animation is being produced by bones film (Gachiakuta).

The anime stars Shūichirō Umeda as Koichi Haimawari/The Crawler, Ikumi Hasegawa as Kazuho Haneyama/Pop Step, Yasuhiro Mamiya as Iwao Oguro/Knuckleduster.

The returning cast from MHA are Kenta Miyake as Toshinori Yagi/All Might, Junichi Suwabe as Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Hizashi Yamada/Present Mic, Akeno Watanabe as Nemuri Kayama/Midnight, and Masamichi Kitada as Tensei Iida/Ingenium.
