PvP Shooter “Marvel Rivals” Gets Official Launch This December!
NetEase Games and Marvel Games decided to use the Gamescom Opening Night Live to make a major announcement. The much-hyped PvP shooter Marvel Rivals will officially launch on December 6, 2024. All superheroes will be unlocked and free to play from the get-go.
The official release date was accompanied by a new trailer that showed Captain America and Winder Soldier being added to the already massive roster. The trailer also featured in-game footage highlighting Steve and Bucky’s gameplay mechanics. Both characters will be available on launch.
As far as my opinion goes, I’m not a fan of the tentacle-like stuff happening with Winder Soldier’s arm. It just comes across as weird to me. Talking about Cap, he seems capable of not only blocking certain attacks but also using his shield to deflect certain incoming projectiles.
A new map was also revealed via the new footage. Players will be able to hold their battles in the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.
Here’s the colorful and action-packed trailer!
Marvel Rivals is ready to have a big presence at this year’s Gamescon with “a series of captivating events and exclusive content.” Attendees can enjoy playable demos and special giveaways at the NetEase booth.
The premise of the game involves multiple universes colliding in the Timestream Entanglement due to a clash between Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099. Such a major threat results in the heroes and villains from across the multiverse facing each other as well as targeting both Dooms before one of them achieves domination.
The playable characters include Black Panther, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Magneto, Loki, Luna Snow, Groot, Venom, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Magik, Hulk, Narmor, Mantis, Thor, Jeff the Land Shark, and many more.
As a fan of Storm, I’m happy that she’s part of such a game. Having gone over quite a bit of the player-testing footage, I enjoyed some of the dialogue choices Ororo has with certain characters, especially Loki. And she does have a cool design. However, having said that I do feel that Storm’s in-game powerset could have been made a lot better.
Marvel Rivals will be released come December 6, 2024, on Steam, Epic Games, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
