The upcoming queer dark comedy titled Down Low, which stars Zachary Quinto and Lukas Gage, will be available to rent or own via all major digital platforms come October 10, 2023.

From what I got from the trailer and other promotional material, Down Low has Gage play a young masseuse named Cameron who ends up in a dramatic event when he gets hired to work for Gary, a newly single closeted wealthy man played by Quinto. Cameron realizes that Gary hasn’t been intimate with another man before. Also, Gary has a terminal illness and he’s ready to live the life he has always wanted to.

In trying not to allow the info dump to get too messy and to help Gary explore his sexuality, Cameron gets Gary on a hookup app and invites another dude over. That’s where things take a dark turn when the hookup ends up dying with Cameron and Gary scrambling to handle the situation.

The “accidental” deaths seem to continue as the plot progresses. And I’m looking forward to seeing where the two leads will end up when the story concludes. Cameron’s quite chill about people dying around him. I want to know what that’s about.

Along with Gage and Quinto, the cast includes Simon Rex, Judith Light, Audra McDonald, and more.

Here’s the hilarious Red Band trailer!

This actually looks good. Gage and Quinto certainly have chemistry. And while I get that straight actors shouldn’t be banned from playing queer roles onscreen, there’s just something different about out queer talent giving it their all during a fun queer-centric film like this one.

Down Low has been co-written by Gage and Phobe Fisher with Rightor Doyle serving as the director.

The film has been rated R for strong/crude sexual content, pervasive language, drug use, and some violence.
