“The Gilded Age: The Complete Second Season” Gets DVD Release This October!

Fans of The Gilded Age will soon be able to own the entire second season when The Gilded Age: The Complete Second Season hits DVD on October 1, 2024.

Courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, the DVD release of the sophomore season of HBO’s The Gilded Age will include all 8 episodes. Not only that but the upcoming physical home release will also be accompanied by 20 pieces of bonus content for fans to enjoy.

The show, set during the Gilded Age (late 1870s to the late 1890s), stars Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelley Curran, Taissa Farmiga, and more.

Continuing the ever-growing struggle/war between “old” and “new” money, the second season had Coon’s Bertha Russell face off against Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) to ultimately change the fate of the Academy of Music due to the creation of the Metropolitan Opera during the early 1880s.

While that’s happening, Spector’s Mr. Russell finds himself dealing with the continuing support behind safe labor practices and factory workers standing up for basic rights. 

Along with the stuff involving the Russells, the show continued to highlight the racism, sexism, and homophobia faced by many during that era. Benton’s Peggy Scott’s narrative involved meeting with Booker T. Washington and trying to stop the New York Education Board from closing “Black schools”.

Created and written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), I’m a huge fan of The Gilded Age and I highly recommend you check it out ASAP. The show has been greenlit for a third season.
