I don’t know about you, but having watched the new official trailer for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, I need this animated film to make all the money!

I’m a TMNT fan. And while I agree that certain iterations of the decades-long franchise weren’t great, I always find myself interested in seeing how TPTB decide to keep the IP going over the years. With everything I know about TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, I have a feeling that this new version of the iconic turtles is going to be amazing!

With the screenplay by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Jeff Rowe, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, you can tell that this creative team just gets what makes the turtle bros great. The official trailer strikes the right balance between humor and important themes, with the young turtles being teenagers and grappling with their desire to be accepted by the human world.

I like how the villains are part of a mutant army that wants to end the human race. In a sense, having Shredder show up as the big bad during, what seems to be, an origin story would have felt weird. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if hints about Shredder are dropped though.

The conflict presented by Superfly (Ice Cube) is likely going to make the brothers really think about what they want in life. Getting the chance to become part of Superfly’s mutant army and gain a sense of belonging might just sway the bros a bit.

The animation style is unique and I have a feeling that the soundtrack is going to be awesome.

The cast includes Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Brady Noon as Raphael, Jackie Chan as Splinter, and Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is currently scheduled for an August 2, 2023, release in the USA.
