The Veronica Mars Movie Trailer is Better Than You
The trailer for the upcoming (and much anticipated), Kickstarter funded Veronica Mars movie was just released via E! Online and in the incredible biased opinion of this self confessed Marshmallow, (an affectionate name for the Veronica Mars fandom) it was awesome. Granted I was just overwhelmed by the excitement of seeing my favorite characters on the screen again but I also genuinely liked what I saw.
Returning to beloved characters after so long away is always a bit of a gamble because if they don’t fit the image you have in your mind it can be rather jarring. Luckily Veronica Mars doesn’t seem to fall into this trap. All the characters we shown were the characters we fell in love with – especially the snarkmaster herself, Veronica.
The trailer doesn’t actually give us much more information than we already had – although it does heavily hint towards a Veronica/Logan reunion (as if we didn’t see that coming). Probably the most intriguing part of the trailer was that is plays up Logan’s moral ambiguity. That’s the thing I’ve always love about Logan – as much as we love him, and as much as Veronica always wants to see the best in him, he could have done it. It is perfectly plausible (albeit incredibly upsetting) that Logan Echolls actually murdered his girlfriend. Just a hint of doubt is enough to take my excitement for this film to a whole new level.
The trailer was noticeably lacking in Weevil (Francis Capra) and I would have liked to see more of Wallace (Percy Daggs III) and Mac (Tina Majorino) but over all I was pretty impressed. But you know what, it’s not really up to me to decide. This is project is on you fandom, you guys made this happen so as long as you’re happy I’m happy. Although I am curious how the trailer comes across to viewers that are unfamiliar with Veronica Mars.

As someone who hasn’t watched the show before, I like it! The concept of solving a crime back in your home town in time for high school graduation is actually pretty cool! I will see it 🙂
As a (slightly obsessed) Marshmallow, the trailer was pretty awesome. It only gave us about 20 seconds of new footage beyond the sneak peeks, but I like that it focused on the mystery more than the others had. There were clearly scenes meant to stir the passions of the shippers, but they weren’t so blatant that it comes off as a sappy love triangle as one of the previews tried to play it. I fully trust Rob Thomas to bring back the relationships and witty banter that we all love, as well as writing a plot that has a wide appeal. I have already blocked out my calendar to see it (at least once) on opening day, and I have a feeling I will be seeing it 3 or 4 times in theaters, which I never do. I just really hope the photo that flashed near the end of the trailer was meant to throw off fans, because if it is what it looked like I will probably cry in the theater.
I marathoned the crap out of VM and have been a fan of Kristen Bell for a few years now, and I am excited as all get out for this movie. My cousin got me into the show, and I can’t wait to see the movie! This movie is a labor of love and just shows how determined a fandom can be when they want something.
