Those About To Die: The Chariot Race at SDCC 2024
San Diego Comic-Con 2024 is in full swing, and with it comes the ever-popular offsite activations. I was fortunate enough to snag a reservation for the Those About To Die: The Chariot Race at SDCC 2024 and loved every minute of it.
Those About To Die starts by dividing each group of people into equal teams of 5 – teams red, gold, white, green, and blue. I was placed into an extremely enthusiastic Team Blue. We won our first race as well as the last, but Team White won the three middle races. I was the second to go, so I did not win… though I came in an extremely close second place! Team White was ultimately victorious.
But fear not, my friends! Every person who participates, regardless of their status, gets a free pin at the end- as well as very strained vocal cords (if you’re screaming enthusiastically enough!).
There is a standby line for this activation, but get there early because it’s very popular. As it’s only set to run in precise groups of 25, the people allowed in at any given time has to be extremely regulated. People will be picked out of the standby line to fill the gaps based on anyone who doesn’t show up for their specific time slots.
I’ve done dozens of offsite activations in my 13 years of San Diego Comic-Con attendance. This was definitely a fun and well-organized experience comparatively. SDCC can be hectic, stressful, and sometimes a bit of a let down, but if you get into this one you’ll have a lot of fun! Props to the people running the event.
The series Those About to Die, which became available to stream on Peacock and internationally on Amazon Prime on July 18th, is based on a book by Daniel P Mannix. It stars Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins, Tom Hughes, Macari, Moe Hashim, Haukur Jóhannesson, Rupert Penry-Jones, Gabriella Pession, Dimitri Leonidas, Emilio Sakraya, David Wurawa,Pepe Barroso, Gonçalo Almeida, Eneko Sagardoy, Lara Wolf, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Angeliqa Devi, and Anthony Hopkins.
