“Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis” Remakes OG Game for 2026

Fans of the long-running Tomb Raider series have received exciting end-of-year news. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is all set to remake the original 1996 video game. It will be released sometime in 2026.
As someone who grew up playing the Tomb Raider franchise, I’m looking forward to experiencing Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. I remember enjoying the OG video game from 1996. I had no idea that it would feature dinosaurs. So, I was excitedly freaking out when I saw a raptor for the first time while playing as Lara Croft. Before said dino encounter, I had been busy shooting at bears and wolves, thinking I would continue to only face “real” animal enemies. And then the T. rex appeared. I remember defeating it, but my tactic involved a lot of jumping and running away to keep my distance from the giant carnivore.
So, yeah, you can tell I’m hyped for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, especially after what was showcased in the newly released trailer.
While I understand why the franchise underwent a reboot of sorts with a younger version of Lara Croft for “modern” players in 2013, I have to say that the appeal for me, when it comes to the iconic British adventurer, is in the campiness of it all. Lara Croft was introduced to the world as a shorts-wearing, dual-pistol-toting, braided-haired acrobatic archeologist who looked fabulous while facing life-threatening situations and saving the world. The upcoming remake is ready to give me just that, and I’m here for it.
Take note that I don’t have anything against the more gritty nature of the rebooted games, but frankly, this is the Tomb Raider “visual reboot” I always wanted. Just look at how she pulls herself up on the bridge. Queen!
We got it in Tomb Raider: Anniversary back in 2007. And I’m ready to eat it up again.
Here’s the stunning trailer! We are getting feathered dinosaurs!!!
From developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, and being published by Amazon Game Studios, the action-adventure title will stay true to the OG, meaning you should expect a whole lot of puzzles and bullet-sponge enemies. There also seems to be a bullet-time type of gameplay mechanic involved.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is expected to release on the PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
Along with this particular video game being revealed during the Game Awards 2025, fans can also get ready for Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Looking at a 2027 debut, it is, apparantly, going to be a sequel to Tomb Raider: Underworld (2008). The narrative will have Lara Croft traveling to Northern India to navigate the “aftermath of a mysterious cataclysm.” Certain themes will explore preservation and exploitation.
Alix Wilton Regan voices Lara Croft in both upcoming video games.
Other than that, the second and final season of the animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft series hit Netflix on December 11, 2025. There’s also a live-action series in the works over on Amazon Prime Video, starring Sophie Turner as the titular character.
