Toshiro Hitsugaya Explains Mature Bankai Form in ‘Bleach’ Chapter 671

After revealing his bankai’s mature form in the previous chapter, Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya got access to new powers and showed everyone why his zanpakuto is considered one of the most powerful ice-controlling weapons in Bleach manga chapter 671.

As someone who likes Toshiro Hitsugaya as a character I’m happy to see him getting a well-deserved boost in his power.

This post contains spoilers regarding Bleach manga chapter 671 ‘The Perfect Crimson 2’.

When Tite Kubo revealed Toshiro’s mature bankai form after all of his ice-petals disappeared, there were some fans who voiced their opinions about the whole thing not making any sense. Some fans commented that his power-up was never foreshadowed and that Kubo was retconning years of story.

However, other fans (including myself) went over every previous chapter that talked about Toshiro’s powers and found that there was nothing definitive about his bankai ending once his ice-petals disappeared.

In Bleach manga chapter 671 we got some explanation about Toshiro’s bankai. It was always supposed to mature once the ice-petals were completely gone, but he couldn’t risk using it for more than twelve minutes because of his young body not being able to handle the power. That is why, after years of training, Toshiro aged himself up assuming that it would make his body capable of handling the surge in power.

It was also revealed that Toshiro aged due to his own will to do so. I don’t remember anything in the story about how Shinigami age. Do they always go through a similar growth spurt or is Toshiro an exception?

Anyway, his grownup body allowed him to better wield his bankai. It also allowed him access to new powers. Opponents can’t touch him without freezing their body in the process, and his Shikai Hyouketsu could freeze anything in four seconds.

Byakuya Kuchiki also revealed a new power of his in this chapter. Let’s see if their combined efforts are enough to take down Gerard.
